Do Not Say Forbidden Words on the Plane: Violators Face Imprisonment and Fines Up to Hundreds of Thousands

The Ministry of Transport reminds passengers not to say forbidden words such as "bomb," "gun," or "terrorism" at airports and on airplanes. Even joking about these carries severe penalties under the law, including imprisonment for 5-10 years and fines up to 600,000 baht.

Mr. Phattharaphong Phattharaphasit, Deputy Minister of Transport, revealed that he has emphasized the Department of Airports (DOA) to expedite public awareness efforts with passengers about the importance of careful speech inside airports and onboard aircraft, especially regarding false claims about dangerous objects or emergency situations, which directly affect safety and flight operations.

Safety is the core of aviation. Every word related to threats is taken seriously. The prohibited words include:

  • Bomb, such as "There is a bomb in the bag"

Strict laws with heavy penalties including imprisonment and fines

Such actions violate the Act on Certain Offenses against Aviation B.E. 2558 (2015), with penalties as follows:

1. In cases of false reports causing others to panic,

  • the penalty is imprisonment up to 5 years or a fine up to 200,000 baht, or both.

2. If the act endangers the safety of the aircraft during service,

  • the penalty is imprisonment from 5 to 10 years or a fine from 200,000 to 600,000 baht, or both.

Ordered strict controls and warning signs throughout airports

, Mr. Danai Ruangsorn, Director-General of the Department of Airports, stated that all affiliated airports have been instructed to install public information signs in both Thai and foreign languages at easily visible locations such as check-in counters and security checkpoints, along with continuous public address announcements.

“We ask for passengers' cooperation to be careful with their words and strictly follow regulations to ensure smooth and safe travel for everyone,” Mr. Danai said in conclusion.
