Thai Fruits Soar in China as DITP Advances in Guangzhou and Kunming, Generating Over 220 Million Baht in Revenue

The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) adopted Supajee's policy to hold Thai fruit sales promotion activities in the Chinese market. Recently organized in Guangzhou and Kunming, these events achieved their goals. In Guangzhou, both offline and online fruit sales were arranged, with expected revenues not less than 218 million baht. Meanwhile, in Kunming, the Thai SELECT brand was promoted to advertise Thai fruits, attracting large crowds for tasting, while durian sales reached immediately 948,000 baht.

Ms. Sunanta Kangvalkulkit, Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce, revealed that DITP received directives from Ms. Supajee Suthumpun, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, to rapidly expand the Thai fruit market to support the fruit season entering the market. Therefore, trade representatives stationed in China were assigned to urgently organize fruit sales promotion activities to stimulate consumption and boost Thai fruit exports. Recently, reports from directors of trade promotion offices in Guangzhou and Kunming indicated successful Thai Fruits Golden Months campaigns, which were well received by Chinese consumers, driving fruit sales and anticipating increased orders from Thailand. Furthermore, in 2026, the Ministry of Commerce plans to expand the Thai Tropical Fruits Golden Months activities to western China, covering three main cities and eight secondary cities, which are new markets for Thai fruits in China.

The event in Guangzhou included a project to elevate fruit exports to the Shantou market under the theme “Thailand: The Land of Tropical Fruits” on Shantou's walking street. This was in partnership with agencies such as the Agriculture Office in Guangzhou, Pagoda Company, CP Company, and Miniso Company. The event featured both offline and online Thai fruit sales, alongside live streaming with Pagoda, which operates over 4,000 stores across China (23 Apr–5 May 2026). CP participated in offline fruit sales under the CP Fresh brand with special prices. Miniso promoted Thai fruits via the IP character “DunDun Chicken,” which has more than 70 million views, themed around “DunDun Coconut,” creating social media buzz and expanding reach among Chinese youth and family consumers.

Trade representatives also reported extending lifestyle-style promotions by displaying Thai fruits during events on a Zhujiang river cruise in Guangzhou organized by Miniso. They conducted market surveys in Shantou, including visits to Pagoda Shantou branch and meetings with executives and Thai fruit importers at the Yuetongjiangnan market to discuss expanding Thai fruit sales channels locally. They gathered insights on consumer behavior, distribution systems, and market demand trends, which will benefit export planning and market strategy development for Thai exporters moving forward.

“This event attracted overwhelming interest from participants and consumers on digital platforms, resulting in product trials, repeat purchases, and ongoing social media sharing. Sales during April to May activities are expected to exceed 46 million yuan, or about 218 million baht, reflecting the potential of China's secondary cities as new long-term consumer bases for Thai products,” Ms. Sunanta said.

Ms. Sunanta added that in Kunming, trade representatives reported organizing Thai SELECT restaurant promotions and Thai durian publicity from 22 to 26 April 2026 at Tongte Department Store in Kunming. Various dishes featuring Thai fruits were prepared, such as durian cheese bread, grilled scallops with pomelo salad, creamy tom yum with longan, steamed snowfish with lime and mangosteen, and aromatic coconut water drinks. These activities raised awareness among hotel executives and food business operators attending the event, who showed increased interest in purchasing Thai fruits.

Regarding Thai durian sales promotion, a collaboration with CP Yunnan and key opinion leaders (KOLs) was conducted to publicize Thai durian and stimulate consumption. A live sales event for durian was held during the campaign, with durian sales reaching about 200,000 yuan, or approximately 948,000 baht.
