Reviving Mae Hong Son and Pai Airports: Transport Ministry Partners with EZY Airline and SAS to Launch New Routes to Boost Tourism

The Transport Ministry held talks with EZY Airline to launch new routes reviving Mae Hong Son and Pai airports starting July 2026, and to attract SAS airline for direct flights from Copenhagen to Krabi, supporting the economy and secondary tourism cities.

Patthapong Patraprasit, Deputy Minister of Transport, revealed after discussions with EZY Airline that the Transport Ministry is ready to support capable and prepared airline operators to provide services, promoting air travel for people across all regions, especially utilizing Department of Airports facilities currently without commercial flights to facilitate travel and expand access to services.

The Deputy Minister of Transport added that this discussion aligns with the ministry’s policy focused on developing the air transport system as a key mechanism to drive regional economies (Airport for Regional Development). The Department of Airports will serve as a central hub connecting travel, supporting tourism, and improving citizens' quality of life.

EZY Airline’s new flight plan for 2026

According to the operational plan, EZY Airline will begin service in 2026 using small 12-seat Cessna Caravan aircraft, with the following planned routes:

  • June 2026: Suvarnabhumi – Hua Hin route launch

  • July 2026: Chiang Mai – Pai, Chiang Mai – Mae Hong Son, and Chiang Mai – Phitsanulok routes launch

Additionally, EZY Airline plans to import 72-seat ATR72 aircraft to meet future demand. Ticket prices will fluctuate based on global oil prices to align with costs without affecting passengers.

Attracting foreign airline SAS for direct Copenhagen-Krabi flights

Simultaneously, discussions were held with LTU ASIA Aviation Services (LAAS), the representative of Scandinavian Airlines (SK/SAS), which plans to serve the Copenhagen – Krabi (KBV) route in the 2026/27 Northern Winter Schedule with up to two flights per week, starting 9 December 2026.

Upgrading regional airports to boost tourism economy

Patthapong concluded that the Transport Ministry affirms its readiness to increase flights at secondary provincial airports to serve the public and is open to supporting other capable airlines to collectively elevate Thailand’s aviation industry sustainably, build public confidence that air travel will be a convenient, safe, and accessible option nationwide, and create important opportunities to drive the economy and promote tourism.
