The Department of Highways has completed the expansion of Highway 4 (Phetkasem Road) from Tamnang Village to Khok Kian Intersection in Phang Nga Province into four lanes, with a budget exceeding 648 million baht. This upgrade enhances transportation on the Andaman side, supporting the economy and tourism.
Information from the Department of Highways (DOH). The Department stated that Construction Office 1 has completed the project to expand Highway 4 (Phetkasem Road) from Ban Tamnang to Khok Kian Intersection, Phase 2, in Takua Pa District, Phang Nga Province. The route is now open for public use, allowing for convenient, fast, and safe travel. This upgrade improves the transportation network on the Andaman side to efficiently support economic growth.
The project covers the section from kilometer 753+500 to kilometer 762+000, totaling approximately 8.5 kilometers, with a total construction budget of 648.8 million baht.
The project involved widening the road from two lanes to four lanes according to special highway standards, with two lanes in each direction. The surface uses asphalt concrete, each lane is 3.50 meters wide, and the outer shoulders are 2.50 meters wide. Traffic directions are separated by a double-sided concrete barrier (Barrier Type 2). The project also installed lighting and flashing warning lights along the entire route to improve visibility and safety, especially at night.
This project area is a key transportation route on the southern Andaman side with heavy traffic, serving as a main corridor for agricultural and industrial goods and connecting Phuket, Ranong, and Chumphon provinces.
The expansion will improve travel and transport efficiency, reduce time and costs for the public and businesses, and enhance the tourism potential of Phang Nga and surrounding areas by improving access to major tourist attractions.
Additionally, the project upgraded drainage systems and road structures to solve flooding issues, while improving the roadside environment to support sustainable urban growth in the future.
