Suriya Halts 6.5 Billion Baht Central Budget for Fertilizer Distribution to Farmers, Citing Possible Lack of Urgency

"Suriya" is preparing to review the proposal to the Cabinet for a 6.5 billion baht central budget to procure fertilizer for distribution to farmers. He pointed out it might not meet urgent necessity criteria and the process could take a long time, so alternative funding sources are being considered.

Suriya Jungrungreangkit, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, revealed he is preparing to review the proposal to submit to the Cabinet on 19 May 2026 for a central budget allocation of 6.5 billion baht from the emergency reserve fund to procure bio-fertilizers and bio-agents for farmers.

He stated that the proposal to use the "central budget" must be carefully examined to ensure it meets the criteria of urgent necessity. If it is assessed not to meet these criteria, it might be necessary to withdraw the proposal from Cabinet consideration.

When asked if the farmers' difficulties are not urgent enough or if the project timeline might not meet the deadline, Suriya said it is due to both factors, especially time constraints. The project would require at least three months to implement, which would delay and miss the timeframe for using the central budget.

However, Suriya added that the relevant agencies will re-examine the issue to identify other budget sources that could be used as substitutes to continue the project.
