Deputy Minister of DE Drives NT Chiang Mai Model to Organize Underground Communication Lines for Digital Network Enhancement

On 24 May 2026, Ms. Nan Buntida Somchai, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy and Society (DE), visited to monitor operations of the National Telecom Public Company Limited (NT). She was accompanied by Associate Professor (Special) Dr. Noppon Polwattanasuchit, Mr. Aekpong Rermcharoen, Director of the National Statistical Office (NSO), along with NT Northern Region executives and relevant officials at the project site for organizing underground communication cables and Single Last Mile at Wat Sai Mun Mueang, Mueang District, Chiang Mai Province.

Ms. Nan Buntida stated that as assigned by Mr. Chaichonnok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, she was tasked with monitoring NT's operations in various areas. This visit focused on following up the upgrade of digital technology services for government agencies and the public in Chiang Mai through the underground communication cable organization and Single Last Mile project, which is part of NT's mission to manage and develop communication networks and digital services.


This project upgrades the communication network services and organizes communication cables of NT Northern Region to support the development of a smart city and create an orderly, beautiful, and safe urban landscape for residents and tourists around the moat area and communities in Chiang Mai's moat area. It covers 8 locations and serves approximately 7,000 households.

. . .. . .NT Northern Region plans to expand the project to key locations in Chiang Mai, such as Nimmanhaemin Road and the Tha Phae Gate zone. This expansion will enable comprehensive connectivity of the digital infrastructure network, facilitating easier, faster system monitoring and maintenance, while also enhancing digital service quality for the local population.for residents in the area.

“The implementation of the underground communication cable organization and SingleLastMile projects in Chiang Mai Province serves as a model for regional digital infrastructure management, which can be integrated and applied to other areas across Thailand to sustainably enhance digital technology access and promote digital equity,” the Deputy Minister of DE said.
