BEM announced to passengers of the Blue and Purple MRT lines that starting 1 June 2026, the original MRT and MRT Plus fare cards will no longer be accepted for travel, as the system moves fully to EMV Contactless payment.
Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM) informed passengers of the Blue and Purple MRT lines about a major change in fare payment systems. From 1 June 2026 onwards, the original MRT and MRT Plus fare cards will no longer be valid for travel, preparing for a full transition to EMV Contactless payment.
This change aims to provide convenience by allowing passengers to pay fares using cards they already carry daily. The EMV (Europay, Mastercard, and Visa) system supports the following cards:
Credit or prepaid cards with VISA and MASTERCARD standards.
UNIONPAY credit cards.
Contactless-enabled debit cards.
EMV Mangmoom cards.
Passengers can check detailed information on supported card types via BEM's Facebook page.BEM Bangkok Expressway and Metro
