
The Ministry of Transport joins hands with the Tourism Authority of Thailand and airlines to pilot comprehensive travel packages at 7 secondary city airports while promoting Hua Hin as a Wellness hub to welcome international tourists
Mr. Patrapong Pataraprasit, Deputy Minister of Transport, revealed after chairing a meeting on promoting secondary city tourism via airports under the Department of Airports thatthe meetingwas held in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Mr. Thani Tharaphak, Managing Director of M-Landarch Company Limited (EZY AIRLINES), and Mr. Pichit Thapattayanon, CEO of Nok Air Public Company Limited. They discussed driving and integrating all sectors including the Department of Airports, airlines, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand. The main goal is to promote tourism routes, stimulate travel to secondary cities, distribute income to local communities and stakeholders, aligning with the Ministry of Transport’s key objective to elevate airports as vital mechanisms for regional development (Airport for Regional Development).
From the initial discussions, a campaign to promote secondary city tourism was proposed, piloting at 7 airport locations as follows:
Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport
Lampang Airport
Mae Hong Son Airport
Hua Hin Airport
Roi Et Airport
Nan Nakhon Airport
Phrae Airport
The packages will combine flight tickets, accommodation, and meals in one bundle to provide convenience and value to tourists. Further detailed discussions will be held, inviting other airlines to join the project in the future.
Besides the tourism promotion campaign, the Ministry of Transport plans to establish aviation hubs in each region to serve as connection points to various secondary cities as follows:
Northern region Chiang Mai Airport
Northeastern region Udon Thani Airport
Southern region Surat Thani Airport
Mr. Patrapong concluded that he is trying to push the idea of making Hua Hin Airport an airport capable of handling international flights again, to attract tourists with strong spending power who stay long-term, linking it with medical centers and focusing on health care and wellness as key attractions.
