Reporters from the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) stated that following the circulation of an internal SRT document on social media, which mentioned plans to suspend 30 social train services and reduce the distance of 16 routes starting 1 June 2026, many citizens, students, and those relying on rail transport became alarmed and worried.
Regarding this matter, the SRT sincerely apologizes that the internal document caused public concern and wants to reassure everyone that as of 1 June 2026, there will be no cancellation or reduction of any social train services. The public can continue to travel according to the usual schedules on all routes.
However, the document circulated on social media is merely an internal approval request for management principles. It is an internal SRT document and has not been authorized for public release.
Additionally, the SRT is considering analyzing data, especially trains with average passenger loads below the median, to study changes in travel behavior and explore how to improve routes or reallocate locomotives and carriages to routes with higher demand. This is only the initial data-gathering phase to "begin further study."
The SRT recognizes that social trains are a vital transportation lifeline for the public. Any future changes will be made with utmost care. The SRT guarantees there will be no sudden cancellations or actions taken without alternative public transport systems in place, ensuring the public is not inconvenienced. Every step will involve thorough review and public feedback.
The SRT requests the public refrain from sharing or forwarding the leaked document to prevent further confusion. The SRT appreciates all concerns and suggestions from the public. Accurate train schedules and official announcements can be verified on the SRT Public Relations Team page,. www.railway.co.thPassenger train tracking system at ttsview.railway.co.th or the Customer Service Center, phone 1690, available 24 hours.
