Ministry of Tourism Discusses with Meta Plans to Use WhatsApp for Communication with Foreign Tourists

Ministry of Tourism Held discussions with Meta Thailand to explore ways to use WhatsApp to enhance communication with foreign tourists, while preparing to establish a working group to develop the Ministry’s Official Account.

Mr. Surasak Pancharoenworakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, along with executives from the Department of Tourism and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), met with representatives of Meta Thailand led by Clara Koh, Director of Public Policy for Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and ASEAN. They discussed ways to apply the WhatsApp application—a widely used communication platform among foreign tourists—to improve publicity, information dissemination, and facilitate foreign tourists visiting Thailand.

In this meeting, both parties exchanged ideas on using digital platforms to support Thailand’s tourism industry, such as disseminating accurate and timely information, promoting key events and festivals, providing safety updates, and linking useful information for foreign tourists through easily accessible and globally popular channels.

They also discussed cooperation methods to support events and promotional activities for Thai tourism, aiming to expand awareness among foreign tourists. This aligns with the government’s policy to drive Thailand’s tourism industry using technology and digital innovation while building Thailand’s image as a sustainable global travel destination.

Mr. Surasak stated that the Ministry of Tourism and Sports plans to study the feasibility of using WhatsApp as the Ministry’s official communication channel (Official Account) to enhance the efficiency of providing information to foreign tourists. Next steps include forming a working group to study the format, approach, and suitability of applying the platform for publicity, important notifications, tourism facilitation, and linking necessary information for foreign tourists through an easily accessible, convenient, and global digital system.

This approach is part of the government’s digital tourism policy aimed at enhancing tourists’ travel experiences while building confidence in information reliability, safety, and Thailand’s modern image on the global tourism stage.
