Supachai Suthumpun, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, monitored the readiness for HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya's upcoming role as chairperson in the opening ceremony of the commemorative exhibition “JOURNEY of INSPIRATION: Empowering Community through Intellectual Property: Design and Creativity.” The exhibition, jointly organized by the Ministry of Commerce through the Department of Intellectual Property and the Thai Permanent Mission, runs from 28 May to 4 June 2026 at WIPO headquarters in Geneva. This follows WIPO's awarding of the “WIPO Award for Creative Excellence” to the Princess on 14 August 2025. The exhibition aims to inspire international audiences by showcasing intellectual property creations, highlighting the power of creativity and the role of intellectual property in promoting Thai local culture and identity globally.
The exhibition will present the story of HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya’s diligence and expertise in intellectual property, linking her royal duties and vision to preserve and continue the legacy of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, in conserving heritage craftsmanship and folk arts. The display includes various intellectual property works such as royal Thai fabric designs, songs, and fashion designs. These serve as examples of leveraging intellectual property types—copyright, design patents, and trademarks—to enhance cultural capital and Thai craftsmanship value, gaining international recognition. Representatives from WIPO’s 194 member states, international organizations, partner agencies, and global attendees will have the opportunity to appreciate the Princess’s valuable intellectual property works and her commitment to empowering local communities. The event also underscores Thailand’s significant role on the global stage in promoting the use of intellectual property to drive the creative economy and sustainable local community development.
Additionally, Supachai provided policy guidance on advancing Thailand’s trade negotiations and intellectual property protection, emphasizing the critical role of the Thai Permanent Mission to the WTO and WIPO as the frontline agency in negotiating, safeguarding, and promoting Thailand’s trade and intellectual property interests. He outlined strategic policy frameworks to advance intellectual property initiatives in the digital age, urging close monitoring of WIPO’s evolving measures and member states’ positions, especially concerning artificial intelligence technology in both protection of creative works and commercial use to boost the digital economy. The aim is to elevate Thailand’s intellectual property standards to align with international norms, facilitating Thai entrepreneurs globally and enhancing investor confidence to attract foreign investment.
