Mr. Wetang Puangsap, spokesperson for the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE), serving as a permanent official, discussed the monitoring and fake news reports by the Anti-Fake News Center (AFNC) of Thailand. This aligns with the policy to prevent and resolve security and social threats under Minister Chaiyachon Chidchob, elevating awareness of technology crime, fake news, and misinformation threats.
On 30 May 2026, AFNC found a total of 160,876 messages, with 5,129 requiring verification. The majority of leads came from Social Listening at 5,128 messages, followed by 1 message from the Line Official channel. There were 23 issues under review, with 4 already verified by relevant agencies. Among these, 7 issues drew the most public attention: 2 true news, 2 fake news, and 3 distorted news, as follows.
Rank 1 True news: The phenomenon of fish dying and washing ashore at Pak Nam beach in Chumphon province.
Rank 2 Distorted news: The Royal Irrigation Department’s plan to repair Canal R.1 requiring nearly THB 1 billion budget.
Rank 3 True news: Announcement to suspend paying respects to the royal cremation of Queen Sirikit on 3-4 June 2026.
Rank 4 Distorted news: Cambodia purchasing traditional Thai masks (Hua Khon) as models.
Rank 5 Distorted news: Black hairy tongue caused by excessive use of mouthwash.
Rank 6 Fake news: Claim of receiving THB 900 per day from Thai Chuay Thai Plus via SMS link.
Rank 7 Fake news: Cambodia moving RM-70 rockets near the border, declaring 100% combat readiness.
Regarding the notable fake news claiming to receive THB 900 per day from Thai Chuay Thai Plus via SMS links, the DE Ministry, together with the Fiscal Policy Office of the Finance Ministry, found these SMS contained “fake links.” They warn the public not to click on links attached to SMS messages from fraudsters pretending to offer rights or financial aid, as this risks misuse of personal data and financial loss.
The “Thai Chuay Thai Plus” program allowed registration from 25-29 May 2026, 06:00-22:00, only through the “Pao Tang” application. There is no other channel, and no government agency sends SMS with links.
The DE Ministry expresses concern for public awareness about fake news spreading online and social media. Without critical awareness, sharing fake news causes misunderstanding, damages property or personal data, and may broadly affect society. The public is urged to trust and share only verified information from official sources and to verify facts or website links carefully.
If citizens encounter suspicious or distorted news, they can report and verify fake news via hotline 1111 ext. 87 (24 hours) or
