Suriyas Orders Department of Livestock Development to Prepare Animal Evacuation Plans for Rainy Season and Flooding

Suriyas has ordered the Department of Livestock Development to prepare for the rainy season and flooding by urgently developing animal evacuation plans, stocking medical supplies and food reserves, and deploying mobile veterinary units to assist farmers nationwide. He also warned of the risk of animal disease outbreaks during the high-humidity period.

Suriyas has instructed the Department of Livestock Development to prepare veterinary units and animal evacuation plans to handle the rainy season and flooding.

The Minister of Agriculture has directed the Department of Livestock Development to prepare for the rainy season by supporting livestock farmers nationwide. The department is to expedite animal evacuation plans, prepare mobile veterinary units, and stockpile animal food supplies to address risks of disease outbreaks and flooding in vulnerable areas.

Mr. Suriyas Jungrungreangkit, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, said he is concerned for livestock farmers nationwide who may be affected by continuous rain and flooding in certain areas. Therefore, he has instructed the Department of Livestock Development to be ready to closely support and assist farmers by preparing personnel, mobile veterinary units, vaccines, medical supplies, livestock relief kits, and animal feed reserves to enable timely aid if animals fall ill or suffer from disasters.

Mr. Suriyas added that he has emphasized the department to create animal evacuation plans in flood-prone areas, prepare temporary animal shelters, and coordinate with local agencies to be ready for sudden floods. The department should closely monitor the situation to prevent losses to farmers and their animals, as well as provide appropriate advice for rainy season preparedness.

Department of Livestock Development warns of animal disease outbreaks during rainy season.

Dr. Somchuan Rattanamangklanon, Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development, stated that the rainy season’s high humidity and rapid weather changes can stress animals, reduce their immunity, and make them more susceptible to illness. This particularly affects cattle, buffalo, pigs, goats, sheep, and poultry. He has ordered provincial and district livestock offices nationwide to inform farmers to closely observe any abnormal animal symptoms such as lethargy, loss of appetite, fever, coughing, sneezing, or unusual mortality rates, and to report these immediately to local livestock officials.

Additionally, the Department of Livestock Development advises farmers to improve ventilation in animal shelters, protect against rain and waterlogging, maintain cleanliness regularly, provide sufficient clean water and quality food, and follow vaccination programs prescribed by the department to reduce risks from major animal diseases.

For farmers in flood-risk areas, it is recommended to prepare elevated areas for animal evacuation, secure backup animal feed and necessary medical supplies, and continuously monitor official warnings and weather forecasts from government agencies to effectively prepare for potential situations.

Dr. Somchuan emphasized that the Department of Livestock Development is ready to mobilize personnel and resources prepared to assist farmers immediately during emergencies to minimize losses to livestock and farmers’ livelihoods, following the directives of Minister Suriyas Jungrungreangkit.

Farmers seeking advice on disease prevention, animal health care, reporting abnormal animal illness, or requesting animal feed support can contact their district or provincial livestock offices, call the Department of Livestock Development hotline at 063-225-6888, or report via the DLD 4.0 application at any time.
