Update on Overpass Project on Highway 32 to Ease Traffic in Chai Nat Progresses 20% Ahead of Schedule, Expected Completion in 2028

The Department of Rural Roads (DRR) is advancing the construction of an overpass on rural road Chon.1014 crossing Highway 32 (Asian Highway) in Manorom District, Chai Nat Province. The project has now progressed over 20%, ahead of the planned schedule. It aims to solve traffic congestion and reduce accidents in the area, with completion and opening expected in 2028.

Solving a dangerous intersection on Highway 32 to reduce impact on residents of 5 subdistricts.

Previously, the intersection between Highway 32 from kilometer 145 to 146 and rural roads Chon.1014 and Chon.4024 in Manorom District, Chai Nat, experienced heavy traffic congestion. This caused delays for road users and frequent accidents, affecting the quality of travel for residents across more than five subdistricts.

To address this issue concretely, the Department of Rural Roads initiated the overpass construction project over Highway 32 at the end of 2025 to enhance safety and improve the transport network efficiency in Upper Central Thailand.

Progress exceeds 20%, ahead of schedule, with expected opening in 2028.

Mr. Phichit Hunsiri, Director-General of the Department of Rural Roads, stated that the DRR is implementing the Ministry of Transport's infrastructure development policy to promote systematic economic growth. Currently, the overpass project on Chon.1014 has progressed over 20%, which is ahead of the planned timeline.

The contractor is currently constructing bored piles, driven piles, foundations, piers, embankment layers, and producing precast segmental box girders for the bridge deck. The project is expected to be fully completed and open for public use by 2028.

Budget of 299 million baht designed to support large trucks.

The engineering structure details include a total construction budget of 299.88 million baht, consisting of:

  • A prestressed precast box girder bridge, with a total length of 399 meters,
  • featuring 2 traffic lanes, each lane 3.50 meters wide, with shoulders 2.50 meters wide on each side, designed specifically to accommodate heavy truck traffic.
  • Traffic surface, paved with Polymer Modified Asphalt (PMA) concrete to enhance durability.
  • Connecting road, with a total length of 1.450 kilometers, surfaced with 0.25-meter-thick concrete pavement.

Beyond engineering dimensions, the DRR emphasizes public participation. Before starting the project, a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the DRR, the contractor, and community representatives to gather input from local leaders and relevant agencies. Continuous impact monitoring meetings will be held throughout construction to ensure maximum benefit for Chai Nat residents and all road users.
