Over 2 Million People Use Thai Chua Thai Plus Land and Rail Transport Benefits, Saving 35 Million Baht in Living Costs

Siripong revealed that within nine days, about 2 million people have used the "Thai Chua Thai Plus" scheme for land and rail transport. The government has spent 35 million baht on the program, describing it as a policy that effectively reduces living costs. He believes passenger numbers will continue to rise. The Department of Rail Transport reported that 1.3 million people have used the scheme across eight electric train lines, with total travel costs amounting to 61 million baht. The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) had 16,500 users over nine days, while the Transport Company Limited (BKS) recorded 2,000 users.

Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Deputy Minister of Transport, disclosed the results of the policy aimed at reducing travel expenses for the public under the "Thai Chua Thai Plus 60/40" project. According to reports from relevant agencies, from 1 to 9 June 2026, approximately 2 million people participated in the scheme out of about 10 million public transport users. This helped concretely reduce travel expenses for the public. Overall, rail and land public transport systems saved about 35 million baht in travel costs, reflecting thatthis measurehas been widely accessible to the public and truly helps lower living costs.

Specifically, focusing on the rail system during the first seven days from 1 to 7 June 2026, an average of about 900,000 people used the scheme daily, with total fares amounting to approximately 43 million baht. Of this, the public paid around 17 million baht, and the government subsidized about 26 million baht, averaging 3 to 4 million baht daily in government support. Additionally, passenger numbers per trip increased by about 16%, up from approximately 20% under the previous "Half-Half" scheme.

However, he acknowledged that current average figures are not yet stable because the data collection period is still relatively short. Nevertheless, the overall trend is positive and clearly reflects the policy’s effectiveness. Moreover, the measure is not intended to stimulate spending but rather to reduce the daily travel expenses of people who already commute. The results clearly show that this policy meets public needs and provides genuine assistance.

Meanwhile, a report from the Department of Rail Transport stated that accumulated data from 1 to 9 June 2026 on the use of the "Thai Chua Thai Plus" scheme for electric trains across eight lines showed a total of 10,713,059 passenger trips over nine days, averaging 1,190,340 trips per day. Of these, 1,347,836 trips used the scheme, totaling 61.03 million baht. The average daily usage was 149,760 trips. Daily trends showed a continuous increase in scheme users, starting with 61,852 trips on the first day and peaking at 197,649 trips on 9 June 2026, a 69.12% rise compared to the same period under the "Half-Half" scheme, which averaged 116,872 users daily.

As of 9 June 2026, the three electric train lines with the highest cumulative scheme usage were: 1) the Green Line with 94,746 users, representing 47.94% of total users; 2) the Blue Line with 53,877 users or 27.26%; and 3) the Pink Line with 13,661 users or 6.91%. This data indicates that the fare subsidy through the "Thai Chua Thai Plus" project has helped promote daily electric train use, especially on major routes serving large numbers of commuters within Bangkok and its metropolitan areas. Authorities will continue monitoring usage statistics closely to inform policy evaluation and improve rail transport measures to better meet public needs.

Regarding the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) bus service, from 1 to 9 June 2026, 16,594 people used the "Thai Chua Thai Plus" scheme, accumulating expenses of 319,352 baht, divided into 127,741 baht paid by passengers and 191,611 baht subsidized by the government. Meanwhile, the Transport Company Limited (BKS) recorded 2,042 users during the same period, with total expenses of 1,173,950 baht—765,550 baht paid by passengers and 408,400 baht government support.
