NAFMS Raids Rayong Illegal Frozen Durian Factory Seizing 25 Tons Worth Over 8 Million Baht

The National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards (NAFMS) joined forces with Rayong's Internal Security Operations Command to raid an illegal frozen durian production factory, seizing 25 tons of goods valued at over 8 million baht. The factory lacked licenses and certification, and strict legal action is planned to protect the standards of Thai durian exports.

NAFMS dismantled an illegal frozen durian factory in Rayong Province.

Mr. Chaiwat Yothakorn, Secretary-General of the National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards, revealed that Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Ms. Piyarat Tiyapairat, had issued a policy directive to intensify monitoring, prevention, and suppression of substandard agricultural products. She emphasized that NAFMS must enforce the law strictly against offenders who violate regulations to protect consumers' food safety, maintain standards, and build confidence in Thai durian in global markets. Accordingly, Mr. Kittikasem Nimsart, Director of the Standards Control Division, along with the director of the Surveillance and Inspection Group and officials under the Agricultural Commodity Standards Act B.E. 2551 (2008), coordinated with Rayong's Internal Security Operations Command to inspect a frozen durian production site of a company located in Village 8, Phangrad Subdistrict, Klaeng District, Rayong Province. This followed reports of illegal production of frozen durians for export without a license.

25 tons of goods seized, valued at over 8 million baht.

Inspection at the site found that durian flesh was purchased, processed, frozen, and packed for export. There were 25,847 kilograms (25 tons) of frozen durians stored in cold rooms, valued at over 8 million baht. The production was conducted without a manufacturing license under the compulsory standard TISI 9046-2560 and without certification. Officials collected evidence, seized the products and cold rooms, fenced off the area, and posted clear warning signs to prevent further illegal production on the premises during legal proceedings. Authorities will expedite strict legal action.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Ms. Piyarat Tiyapairat, praised and thanked the officials of NAFMS, Rayong's Internal Security Operations Command, and partner agencies for their straightforward enforcement and supervision efforts. She highlighted their role in safeguarding the quality and standards of Thai durian production to ensure sustainable growth.
