Department of Highways Promotes MR10 Motorway Section from Highway 32 to Suphanburi to Boost Western Transport Links

The Department of Highways held a public hearing on the MR10 Motorway project from Highway 32 to Suphanburi to expedite an economic feasibility review alongside preliminary design and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) studies. The initial plan aims to build an elevated expressway along the entire route to address waterway blockages and reduce community impacts. This will upgrade the third outer ring road network on Bangkok’s western side, connecting regional transport and reducing congestion entering major cities.

On 11 June 2026 GMT+7, the Department of Highways’ Survey and Design Office held the inaugural project orientation meeting (Seminar 1) for hiring consultants to review the economic feasibility study, conduct detailed surveys and designs, and study environmental impacts of Motorway No. 91 (MR10) from Highway 32 to Suphanburi. The purpose was to present the project background, objectives, scope, study steps, development concepts, and expected benefits to stakeholders while gathering feedback and suggestions. This input will help ensure the project is technically suitable and minimizes environmental and community impacts along the route. Representatives from government agencies, state enterprises, local administrative organizations, private organizations, and the public participated.

The section from Highway 32 to Suphanburi (MR10) is part of Motorway No. 91 (MR10), designated as the third outer ring road on Bangkok’s western side. It serves as an alternative route for travel and freight transport, linking different regions around Bangkok and its metropolitan area without passing through central Bangkok. As an alternative high-standard road, it will have fully controlled access to support high-speed travel and facilitate agricultural and industrial goods transport into the country’s main network. This will ease vehicle congestion entering Bangkok and its metropolitan area, thereby lowering overall logistics costs.

//This Motorway No. 32 to Suphanburi (MR10) will run parallel to the Suphanburi–Nakhon Luang–Ban Phachi railway line. It continues from Motorway No. 32 connecting to Highway No. 305, which the Department of Highways began surveying and designing in 2025. The department has hired a group of consulting firms including MAA Consultant Co., Ltd., Consultant of Technology Co., Ltd., Civil and Structural Engineers Co., Ltd., and Dowrueng Communications Co., Ltd. to review the economic feasibility study, conduct detailed surveys and designs, and study environmental impacts.Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)for the project aims to ensure development is appropriate from engineering, economic, social, and environmental perspectives, with measures to prevent and mitigate potential impacts. The study period is 450 days.

Preliminary studies found that the entire project route crosses multiple water catchment areas. Therefore, the initial design will consider elevated or viaduct structures to avoid flood levels and prevent the project route from blocking water flowing from north to south. Additionally, the new railway project from Kanchanaburi to Suphanburi to Ban Phachi junction is designed as an elevated line throughout. Thus, the elevated design will align both railway and motorway projects to resolve water drainage blockages, community division, and road intersection issues in a consistent manner. The consulting group will present development alternatives for the road at the next meeting.

After this meeting, the Department of Highways will compile feedback and suggestions from all sectors to refine the study and detailed design for better completeness. It will also conduct ongoing public participation activities to disseminate accurate project information to related agencies and local residents. The first project orientation meeting (Seminar 1) was scheduled over two days covering Suphanburi and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya provinces to allow broad participation from residents and stakeholders in the study area to express their views and suggestions.
