Department of Intellectual Property Leads Thai Innovations to Shanghai at CSITF 2026, Showcasing IP to Connect Chinese Investors

The Department of Intellectual Property is leading Thai innovations to Shanghai at the CSITF 2026 forum, highlighting an online intellectual property (IP) marketplace platform that connects Chinese investors with Thai IP to expand international business opportunities.

The Department of Intellectual Property is advancing by presenting high-potential innovations and technologies from Thai educational institutions and the private sector at The 12th China (Shanghai) International Technology Fair (CSITF) 2026, held from 11–13 June 2026 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, People's Republic of China. The aim is to promote the commercial use of Thai intellectual property and innovation on a global scale, while creating business and investment opportunities with Chinese investors and partners.

Mrs. Ornmon Supthaweetham, Director-General of the Department of Intellectual Property, stated that the department prioritizes driving the country's economy through innovation and intellectual property (IP-Driven Economy). It focuses on promoting Thai research and intellectual property, especially innovations and inventions, to receive protection through patents or petty patents. These protections are not merely legal documents but must be leveraged to generate revenue, facilitate sales, and be practically applied in the business sector to create added economic value, enhance competitiveness, and support sustainable national growth. This aligns with the policy of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce (Mrs. Supachai Suthampan) aimed at raising the capabilities of Thai entrepreneurs by using intellectual property as a tool to gain competitive advantage and expand business opportunities globally.

Mrs. Ornmon added that the China International Science and Technology Fair (CSITF) is one of the People's Republic of China's key technology and innovation platforms. It is a widely recognized international forum for technology trade and transfer. The event space covers more than 35,000 square meters and attracts over 50,000 visitors annually, more than 85% of whom are businesspeople, investors, entrepreneurs, and key decision-makers from leading industrial sectors. Nearly 1,000 companies from over 20 countries and regions showcase their innovations. Participating in CSITF 2026 provides a vital opportunity to present the potential of Thai innovations and intellectual property to global investors and business partners, as well as to foster cooperation in investment, technology transfer, and the advancement of Thai research and innovations to international markets.

At this event, the department presented 50 high-potential Thai innovations from leading educational institutions and private sectors in industries including food and agriculture, medicine and health, biotechnology, and cosmeceuticals. These sectors have strong economic potential and address future challenges such as food security, health, and sustainable development. The activities included Pitching Sessions and Business Matching with investors and business partners from the People's Republic of China. Over 30 Chinese companies and investors participated in negotiations, aiming for at least 20 business matches, with an expected business and investment negotiation value exceeding 10 million baht between Chinese investors and Thai innovation owners.

Additionally, the department introduced the Thai online Intellectual Property marketplace platform (IP Mart), developed to consolidate intellectual property, technology, and innovations ready for commercial development in one place. This platform facilitates entrepreneurs, investors, and interested parties to search, contact, and negotiate cooperation directly with IP owners. It serves as a key mechanism to efficiently connect innovation with investment and technology transfer. This complements the IP Finance policy, which promotes using intellectual property as a financial tool to increase access to funding and capital raising for Thai entrepreneurs, leading to tangible commercial use and economic value creation.

On this occasion, the Department of Intellectual Property visited exhibits of Chinese innovations and technologies to study future technology trends and seek beneficial cooperation opportunities for the development of Thai innovation and industry. Particular focus was on artificial intelligence (AI), intelligent robotics, green technology, clean technology, and modern agricultural technologies from leading Chinese companies and startups, which play important roles in improving efficiency.

These technologies enhance production, reduce costs, and promote sustainable industrial development. Examples include animal-mimicking robots by Magic Lab, brainwave-controlled robotic systems and real-time health monitoring wearable devices by Maschine Robot, and personal electric aircraft for short-distance travel supporting the low-altitude economy by Nanjing Kuailun Zhineng Technology.

The Director-General of the Department of Intellectual Property further stated that Thailand and the People's Republic of China have long-standing strong economic, trade, and investment ties. Participation in CSITF this time marks an important step in building a collaborative network in innovation and technology between the two countries. At the previous CSITF event, over 570 technology business deals and cooperation matches were created, demonstrating the event's capacity to connect technology developers, investors, and businesses from many countries, fostering concrete collaboration that expands opportunitiesfor trade and investmentand further advancement of Thai innovations in global markets in the future.

The Department of Intellectual Property continues to create business and investment opportunities for Thai IP owners by preparing to organize IP X Venture 2026, an intellectual property fair driving Thai business into the future, from 27–29 August 2026 at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, Hall 8. The event aims to connect researchers, entrepreneurs, investors, financial institutions, and venture capitalists from both domestic and international arenas, fostering business negotiations, investments, technology transfers, and commercial IP utilization, reinforcing the department's role in advancing Thai intellectual property from rights protection to sustainable economic value creation.   .
