Tourism Minister Affirms Thailands Safety, Welcomes Russian Tourists Revenue Surpasses 58 Billion Baht in First Five Months

"Minister Surasak" emphasized that Thailand is a safe destination, warmly welcoming Russian tourists and travelers from around the world, affirming that Russia is one of the quality tourist markets. He pointed out that in 2025, Thailand received nearly 1.9 million Russian tourists.

Mr. Surasak Pancharoenworakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, addressed reports about the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs advising certain citizens regarding travel to Thailand. He stated that the Ministry of Tourism and Sports is closely monitoring the situation and confirmed that Thailand remains a safe tourist destination with international standards for tourist care, and is ready to welcome tourists from all countries, including Russian visitors.

The Minister of Tourism and Sports said that Thailand and the Russian Federation maintain strong relations at all levels—political, economic, trade, investment, educational, cultural, and tourism. The two countries will mark the 130th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027, reflecting longstanding friendship and cooperation between their peoples.

“Russian tourists have always been good friends of Thailand and represent one of the most important quality tourist markets for Thailand’s tourism industry. In 2025, Thailand welcomed nearly 1.9 million Russian tourists, the highest number from any European country visiting Thailand. In the first five and a half months of 2026 alone, over 979,000 Russian tourists arrived, ranking as Thailand’s fourth largest market and generating more than 58 billion baht in revenue. This reflects the ongoing popularity and confidence Russians have in Thailand.”

Mr. Surasak stated that currently there are no signs of impact on Russian tourists’ travel to Thailand overall, including flights, hotel bookings, or tourism activities. Relevant agencies continue to monitor the situation and assess impacts closely in cooperation with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and private tourism sectors.

The Thai government prioritizes facilitating and building confidence among all foreign tourists based on the rule of law, safety, and equal treatment. Thailand continues to enhance measures for tourist care, including safety, transportation, services, and 24-hour assistance via the multilingual tourist police hotline 1155.

“I affirm that Thailand remains a second home for Russian tourists and travelers worldwide. We are ready to welcome everyone with hospitality, safety, and internationally recognized service standards, continuing to build confidence and provide the best tourism experience for all visitors.”

Mr. Surasak said the Ministry of Tourism and Sports coordinates closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to stay informed of facts and assess potential impacts on the tourism sector. Both agencies agree that Thailand remains a safe destination and is ready to welcome tourists from all countries as usual.

Moreover, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, through the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) domestically and abroad, continuously monitors Russian tourists’ travel atmosphere and confidence. It cooperates with the private sector, airlines, and tourism operators to communicate accurate information and foster comprehensive confidence among tourists.

“The Thai government values the good relationship between Thailand and the Russian Federation and is prepared to implement all appropriate measures to maintain this cooperative atmosphere and the confidence of tourists and operators from both countries, which is a vital foundation for long-term joint tourism growth.”
