Netflixs Evil Lawyer Series Invests Over 130 Million Baht Filming in 11 Thai Provinces, Boosting Local Revenue Beyond 10 Billion Baht

The blockbuster Netflix series "Evil Lawyer" (EVL) has invested over 130 million baht filming across 11 provinces throughout Thailand, benefiting from a cash rebate incentive of up to 28%. This has been identified as a key attraction drawing significant financial activity. The Tourism Department reported revenue exceeding 7.7 billion baht in 2025 and plans to push the target beyond 10 billion baht by 2027, aiming to sustainably elevate Thailand as a global content production hub.

Mr. Jatuporn Phakdeewanit, Director-General of the Tourism Department, revealed that the trend of foreign film and series productions investing in Thailand continues to grow steadily. Contributing factors include the diverse filming locations, skilled personnel, and government investment promotion measures, making Thailand a major destination for global content producers.

The series "Evil Lawyer" (EVL), streamed on Netflix and licensed by Netflix Worldwide Entertainment LLC of the United States, coordinated its Thailand filming through Enteready Film Co., Ltd., with a total production budget exceeding 130 million baht. It is another international project choosing Thailand as its main filming location, covering multiple provinces: Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Chonburi, Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Chachoengsao, and Kanchanaburi. This reflects Thailand's capacity and location diversity to support world-class content creation.

The producers applied for benefits under Thailand’s foreign film production promotion measures and were approved for a cash rebate of 28% of qualifying expenses, comprising a base rate of 20% and an additional 8% for fulfilling specified activities.

"The Cash Rebate program is a crucial mechanism that attracts investment from the global film and series industry to shoot in Thailand. This creates employment, increases use of domestic goods and services, and stimulates the economies of filming locations," Mr. Jatuporn said.

Mr. Jatuporn added that for 2026, the Tourism Department expects foreign film and series productions to generate approximately 8 billion baht in revenue and aims to push that figure beyond 10 billion baht by 2027. This goal supports Thailand’s sustainable development as a leading international film and content production center in Asia. This is an increase from 2025, which saw 7.717 billion baht in revenue from 546 foreign productions, marking a historic high in economic circulation within Thailand.

"The film and series industry not only creates economic value through production spending but also distributes income to local businesses, generates jobs for Thai people, and promotes Thailand’s image to global audiences. The 'Evil Lawyer' series demonstrates Thailand’s strengths in skilled personnel, filming locations, production support systems, and investment promotion measures, earning the trust of a global platform like Netflix to invest and produce work here," he said.
