Transport Ministry Accelerates 2026 Budget Spending Over 260 Billion Baht, Emphasizes Repair over New Construction and Clean Energy for 2027 Plan

The Ministry of Transport is accelerating spending of its 2026 budget exceeding 260 billion baht to stimulate the economy, while unveiling the 2027 plan that emphasizes “maintenance over new construction” alongside promoting clean energy.

Deputy Transport Minister Siripong Angkasulkiat revealed after chairing a meeting to expedite the 2026 annual expenditure budget disbursement for the Ministry of Transport that, according to Ministry Order 901/2569, a task force was appointed to oversee, monitor, and accelerate the budget disbursement and government spending within the Ministry. The task force has authority to supervise the disbursement of the 2026 annual expenditure budget and carryover funds from 2025 to ensure targets are met, as well as to provide recommendations and solutions to obstacles. This meeting reviewed the budget execution results as of the end of May 2026 and prepared for the draft 2027 annual expenditure budget bill scheduled for first reading in the House of Representatives.

For the 2026 annual expenditure, the Ministry of Transport was allocated a total of 265.406 billion baht, divided into 30.658 billion baht for recurrent expenses and 234.748 billion baht for investments. The cumulative disbursement remains behind the planned schedule. All agencies have been urged to accelerate spending and advance projects promptly to inject funds into the economy as quickly as possible.

Siripong added that the 2027 budget allocation for the Ministry’s agencies, including government departments and state enterprises, totals 399.474 billion baht. The strategy aims to reduce unnecessary government spending by transferring budgets from 68 items unlikely to finalize contracts within the fiscal year, totaling over 1.73 billion baht, to projects that are ready and urgently required.

Additionally, agencies with large investment budgets, both prior commitments and single-year items, were instructed to promptly finalize contract signings. To date, contracts have been signed for 7,801 out of 8,003 single-year items, amounting to 86.977 billion baht. Regarding infrastructure projects, the Ministry focuses on maintenance rather than new construction, prioritizing repairs and upkeep of existing transport networks to ensure good condition and maximum safety, facilitating travel and minimizing public impact.

Siripong emphasized that the task force will closely monitor progress and report on disbursement and obstacles to Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn to ensure budget spending is transparent and highly efficient.
