"Phattharapong" has instructed the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand to rapidly adopt airspace management technology in preparation for the first seaplane flight between Krabi and Phuket scheduled for late 2026, progressing Thailand towards becoming a World-class Aviation Hub.
Mr. Phattharapong Pataraprasit, Deputy Minister of Transport, revealed that the Ministry of Transport is advancing the country's aviation industry development policy through integrated cooperation with all relevant agencies. He assigned the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (AEROTHAI) to swiftly implement the most modern air traffic management technologies to enhance airspace management efficiency, increase safety, and support the future growth of air transportation. This is a key mechanism to drive Thailand towards becoming a “World-class Aviation Hub.” AEROTHAI is also preparing air navigation services and airspace management to support future seaplane operations by applying their expertise and experience in air traffic services to benefit the nation.
Mr. Phattharapong added that, as chairman of the Strategic Integration Committee to promote seaplane operations, he has accelerated collaboration among government agencies, experts, and related private sectors to establish operational guidelines and push for concrete implementation under international aviation safety standards. He expects the inaugural flight on the route “Krabi International Airport – Phuket Deep Sea Port” to be operational by no later than late 2026. This will mark a significant start in developing a new air transportation system that seamlessly connects land, air, and water travel, enhancing the country’s tourism potential and economy in the long term.
Mr. Surachai Nooprom, Deputy Executive Director and Acting CEO of AEROTHAI, said that AEROTHAI is advancing the adoption of modern technology and continuously developing air traffic management systems. This includes upgrading infrastructure for air navigation services, improving airspace utilization efficiency, designing new flight routes to increase flight capacity, developing digital systems to support operations, and integrating flight data sharing among agencies.
Currently, AEROTHAI is preparing air navigation services to support future seaplane operations by conducting joint studies and planning airspace management, designing flight routes, establishing operational procedures for takeoff and landing on water surfaces, and integrating operations with airports and relevant aviation agencies. This aims to support the launch of the inaugural seaplane flights according to the Ministry of Transport’s target, ensuring safety, efficiency, and no disruption to existing air traffic.
