The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and sends its support to those injured in the Doiluang tunnel wall collapse during the new railway construction project on the Den Chai–Chiang Rai–Chiang Khong line (Contract 3), Chiang Rai–Chiang Khong section.
On 20 June 2026, at approximately 16:30, the Doiluang tunnel wall collapsed at the construction site in Moo 10, Chok Chai Subdistrict, Doiluang District, Chiang Rai Province, while the contractor was installing a waterproofing system inside the tunnel.
The incident resulted in 2 fatalities: Mr. Apidet (surname withheld), 24, from Kanchanaburi Province, and Mr. Tu (surname withheld), 29, a Myanmar national. Additionally, 2 people were severely injured.
After the incident, the project’s safety officers immediately sealed off the area and coordinated with relevant agencies for urgent assistance and investigation. The injured were taken to Doiluang Hospital and Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital, while the deceased were handed over to authorities to proceed with legal formalities.
The State Railway of Thailand has ordered the contractor to temporarily suspend operations at the accident site for two days to allow experts and relevant agencies to thoroughly inspect the structure, working environment, and determine the cause before implementing additional safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
Simultaneously, the SRT has assigned the contractor, in cooperation with the SRT, to fully provide care, compensation, and assistance to those affected and their families, including medical treatment, legal benefits, and other related support.
Furthermore, the SRT has ordered a review of safety measures for tunnel construction and other large-scale structural projects underway, emphasizing that contractors, supervisors, and all related parties must strictly adhere to safety standards to ensure maximum project safety.
The State Railway of Thailand will inform the public and media of any updates regarding the investigation results as they become available.
