Thai Airways Unveils Plan to Receive New Boeing 787-9 Jets, Expanding Long-Haul Fleet with Four Aircraft This Year

Thai Airways will take delivery of a new Boeing 787-9 aircraft on 22 June 2026, with plans to gradually receive a total of four aircraft by the end of 2026. This will improve operational efficiency, support growth in the international travel market, and enhance the passenger experience with advanced technology and greater fuel economy, enabling expansion of global routes.

Mr. Chai Iamsiri, Chief Executive Officer of Thai Airways Public Company Limited, revealed that the company is proceeding with fleet expansion by adding Boeing 787-9 aircraft to increase operational efficiency, accommodate market growth, and enhance passenger service capabilities. The first delivery is scheduled for 22 June 2026, with plans to bring four aircraft into service within the year. Introducing the Boeing 787-9 marks a significant step forward in modernizing and improving fleet efficiency.

The Boeing 787-9 is a wide-body, long-haul aircraft featuring advanced technology that reduces fuel consumption by up to 20% compared to previous models. This supports Thai Airways’ sustainable fleet development approach. The cabin has two classes: 30 lie-flat seats in Royal Silk Class (business class) arranged 1-2-1, and 268 economy seats arranged 3-3-3 with a 120-degree recline.

The cabin products are designed to align with the current Boeing 787-9 fleet and have been modernized, including in-flight entertainment systems with 17.3-inch screens in business class and 13.3-inch screens in economy. The aircraft also features in-flight internet connectivity to enhance passenger convenience throughout the journey. Receiving the Boeing 787-9 reflects Thai Airways’ commitment to strengthening service capabilities and connecting Thailand to destinations worldwide.
