Authorities have cracked down on over 12,000 URLs as the government intensifies efforts against illegal websites and online gambling during the 2026 World Cup, swiftly integrating data with copyright owners to immediately shut down unlawful live broadcast links upon detection.

Crackdown on 12,000 Illegal Links and Gambling Websites During 2026 World Cup

Ms. Nan Buntida Somchai, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy and Society (DES), , and Mr. Nawamin Prasopnet, Chief Executive Officer of Mononex Public Company Limited, held discussions to define measures to prevent and suppress illegal gambling websites and platforms, as well as copyright infringement of the 2026 World Cup broadcasts, aiming to protect rights and reduce economic harm.

Statistics on Website Shutdowns for Gambling and Copyright Violations

Ms. Nan Buntida explained that the government, through the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, takes online crime suppression seriously, especially during the 2026 World Cup event. Data from the Illegal Website Monitoring Center shows that from 10 to 24 June 2026, a total of 12,671 URLs related to illegal sites and platforms were blocked, divided as follows:

  • 4,496 URLs blocked under court orders.

  • 8,175 URLs blocked through coordination on social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube).

Collaboration with Copyright Holders to Immediately Block Illegal Links

Following discussions with Mononex Public Company Limited, the official rights holder for the 2026 World Cup and Premier League broadcasts, the company agreed to integrate data and collaborate closely with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society's Illegal Website Monitoring Center to expedite blocking of illegal platforms immediately upon detection, representing a new level of blocking illegal platforms.

"The government, through the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, monitors and inspects offenses around the clock, integrating with the private sector to prevent and suppress illegal websites and platforms. This cooperation accelerates coordination and blocking processes, helping to prevent offenses impacting citizens, society, and the digital economy. The government is fully committed to reducing harm to the public and enhancing economic growth opportunities," the Deputy Minister said.
