
The Ministry of Agriculture is urgently discussing solutions to the falling price of sea salt, aiming to help salt farmers reduce their debts. It plans to promote Thai sea salt in the food industry and support value-added processing to strengthen occupational stability.
Mr. Sarawut Nuangjamnong, Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, revealed after chairing a meeting on solutions to the sea salt price problem, attended by representatives from relevant agencies, the Thailand Sea Federation, and farmer delegates, that currently, farmers across all sectors are facing hardships. Recently, salt farmers have been severely affected due to falling sea salt prices, causing them to face debt problems.
Therefore, the Ministry of Agriculture is rushing to coordinate with relevant agencies to address this hardship. It will integrate sea salt into the food industry to ensure job security for salt farmers. Additionally, it plans to promote production and develop processing to increase product value and expand consumer access to salt products. Furthermore, relevant agencies have been assigned to study and review protective measures for sea salt production areas to prepare for future production.
