Srawut Tackles Cassava Mosaic Disease in Korat, Promotes Clean Seed Bank and Good Water Drives Out Bad Water Model

The Ministry of Agriculture is accelerating efforts to resolve the crisis of cassava mosaic disease. They highlight the model called the "Clean Seed Bank." This integrates the concept of "Good Water Drives Out Bad Water," aiming to elevate sustainable high-value agriculture.

Mr. Srawut Nueangjamnong, Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, revealed after chairing a meeting to discuss solutions to the cassava mosaic disease crisis at Chaiyaphum Cassava Flour Factory, Mittraphap Subdistrict, Sikhio District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, that Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, assigned him along with Mr. Rapeepat Jantrasriwong, Director-General of the Department of Agriculture Extension, to visit and monitor the spread of cassava mosaic disease, which is the main issue the Ministry has been studying and addressing continuously. They also integrated all related sectors to urgently develop clean seed stocks, alongside promoting farmer knowledge in establishing clean seed plots based on the "Good Water Drives Out Bad Water" principle to sustainably break the disease transmission cycle.



Mr. Srawut added that they also discussed the cassava seed bank project free from mosaic disease to promote problem-solving through the clean seed bank mechanism as a source for producing and distributing disease-resistant varieties (Itti 1, 2, 3) and disease-tolerant varieties (Kasetsart 50, Huay Bong 60, Rayong 72). They also support the project to enhance cassava production efficiency on large farms toward high-value agricultural products under climate change conditions in the area, to improve operational efficiency and provide concrete relief to farmers, as well as expand market opportunities and increase competitiveness.in competitionfor farmers.
