Department of Rural Roads Advances Thailand Riviera Project with Tanaw Sri-Kiri Phat Highway from Hua Hin to Pranburi, Completion Expected by 2027

The Department of Rural Roads is steadily advancing the Thailand Riviera project by constructing the Tanaw Sri-Kiri Phat tourism highway, spanning more than 44 kilometers between Hua Hin and Pranburi districts in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. This development aims to strengthen the local economy and sustainably support the tourism industry in southern Thailand, with completion expected in 2027.

Mr. Phichit Hunsiri, Director-General of the Department of Rural Roads, stated that under the policy of Mr. Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, all agencies have been instructed to develop infrastructure and enhance services to facilitate tourists, aiming to establish Thailand as a year-round travel destination based on convenience and safety.

Currently, the Department of Rural Roads (DRR) is executing the construction of the Tanaw Sri-Kiri Phat tourism highway from the Chaiyaphat Road intersection with Highway 3218 to Highway 4, covering Hua Hin and Pranburi districts in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. This project is part of the development of tourism routes (Thailand Riviera) and scenic routes under the DRR’s jurisdiction to extend the coastal road network along the western side of southern Thailand. The route stretches from Khao Yoi district in Phetchaburi province to Pranburi district in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, enhancing connectivity, convenience, travel safety, and supporting coastal tourism. It also serves as an alternative route to Highway 4 (Phetkasem Road) during peak traffic periods such as festivals or long holidays, and helps distribute tourism income sustainably to the grassroots economy.

The project covers a total distance of 44.520 kilometers and has currently reached about 15% completion. Work is underway on road base layers, crushed stone, embankment filling, and subgrade preparation, with full completion anticipated in 2027. Construction is divided into two segments:

Segment 1 From the Chaiyaphat Road intersection with Highway 3218 to Highway 4, between kilometer markers 145+111.491 and 185+766.853.

Segment 2 On Rural Road route PK.1037, from the intersection with Rural Road PK.2030 to Highway 37, spanning kilometer markers 0+000 to 3+864.638.

The highway is constructed as a two-lane asphalt concrete road, with shoulders, lighting systems, traffic signs, safety features, and includes the expansion of a reinforced concrete bridge to accommodate two-way traffic. The total project budget is 699.641 million baht.

Additionally, the Department of Rural Roads has instructed contractors and supervisors to adhere strictly to set standards and place great emphasis on safety during construction. Measures include installing warning signs, flashing lights, safety equipment, and proper traffic management to ensure convenience and safety for residents throughout the construction period.
