TAT Advances Global Health Tourism Market Launching Surf Therapy and Dialysis-Friendly Long Stay to Attract High-Spending Groups

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is advancing the global health tourism market by partnering with medical and wellness networks to elevate high-value health services. Highlighting Long Stay options for dialysis patients and Surf Therapy, TAT aims to position Thailand as a Global Health & Healing Destination.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) TAT continues to drive its high-value economic strategy by launching the major project "Thailand Health Excellence 2026: The Next Chapter of Global Healing." The goal is to transform Thailand from merely a medical tourism destination into a comprehensive global center for health restoration and healing, known as a Global Health & Healing Destination.

Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of TAT, revealed that the health tourism market is rapidly growing and consists of high-spending quality tourists worldwide. TAT has therefore collaborated with leading hospitals, wellness operators, academic institutions, and research agencies to enhance Thailand’s products and services to align with new-generation tourists who seek self-care under the concept "Healing is the New Luxury," meaning healing of body and mind is the true luxury of travel.

The project aims to showcase Thailand’s potential in three dimensions:

  • Medical Treatment: internationally standardized medical care.
  • Science-Based Wellness: promoting well-being grounded in scientific knowledge.
  • Science-Based Local Wisdom: advancing local traditional wisdom through research and innovation.

Highlighting key features: attracting foreign dialysis patients for long stays and launching "Surf Therapy" in Phang Nga.

For the standout initiatives in 2026, TAT has created an unprecedented collaboration with leading agencies to develop new health tourism products including:

  • Dialysis-Friendly Long Stay Thailand project, a partnership with Siriraj Hospital to develop the Siriraj Sappayasathan Thai Traditional Medical Center and design services to support foreign tourists needing dialysis treatment, enabling them to travel and stay long-term in Thailand worry-free.
  • Surf Therapy: The Wave of Healing, Thailand’s first surf therapy program, in cooperation with the global organization Waves for Change, using the beautiful coastal area of Phang Nga province as a pilot site for therapeutic and psychological rehabilitation activities.

Connecting to a global digital platform to boost long-term national revenue.

Besides these tangible new services, TAT has expanded its digital marketing network by linking to global health systems through cooperation with Arokago and developing an online platform,ThailandHealthX.com,to serve as a central information hub and comprehensive access point for Thailand’s health tourism services.

TAT’s major move in 2026 represents a significant step to attract wealthy foreign tourists willing to pay for health care, while distributing economic benefits to tourism operators and local communities, aligning sustainably with global health trends.
