Mr. Phichit Hunsiri, Director-General of the Department of Rural Roads, stated that the department has carried out maintenance work on rural highway route NY.4016 (from the intersection with highway 3049 to Khun Dan Prakan Chon Dam) in Mueang District, Nakhon Nayok Province, including transforming the old Elephant Roundabout into the new "Elephant Fountain Roundabout". The new look.
This design emphasizes universality and beauty by seamlessly incorporating Nakhon Nayok's local identity. The area around the fountain is adorned with patterns of the "Supannika flower," the province's official flower, and "Mayongchid," a famous local fruit, to enhance the tourism image.
Beyond aesthetics, the Department of Rural Roads prioritizes tourist safety by installing five additional CCTV cameras near kilometer marker 1+300. The system connects to the smart traffic management control room of the Nakhon Nayok Rural Highway District to monitor safety and manage traffic, providing peace of mind to road users along the route.
Khun Dan Prakan Chon Dam, constructed under the royal initiative of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, is the longest roller-compacted concrete dam in Thailand. Visitors can enjoy views of Khao Yai National Park and Nakhon Nayok town from the dam's crest.
Traveling from Nakhon Nayok town, take highway 3049 to Wat Tamnak intersection (km 11+100), then turn right to continue along the same route, passing many attractions and accommodations, including Wang Takrai Waterfall. Then turn into the junction at km 17+350 to enter rural highway route NY.4016. Shortly ahead, you will reach the "Elephant Fountain Roundabout." From there, you can veer left to head up directly to the dam.
Besides the dam, Nakhon Nayok Province has many other interesting natural attractions, especially "Khao Chong Lom." Located within the Khun Dan Prakan Chon Dam area, it is becoming popular among tourists seeking to experience the rich natural environment close to Bangkok.
