Latest Egg Price Increase Explained by Commerce Ministry Reduction Expected in August

The Ministry of Commerce explained the 0.20 baht per egg price increase was due to erratic weather and rising costs. The Egg Producers Association confirmed no further price hikes and expects prices to start falling in August. Discussions with major retailers are underway to help stabilize living costs.

The Commerce Ministry explained the reasons behind the 0.20 baht per egg price increase.

Mr. Karnit Nonjui, spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce, disclosed that the network of four egg producers' cooperatives announced a recommended mixed egg price increase from 3.60 baht to 3.80 baht per egg, effective 6 July 2026. The Department of Internal Trade has closely monitored production, costs, and consumer demand, finding the price adjustment consistent with rising production costs and weather conditions affecting egg output. Egg producers have faced rising costs since March. However, the Egg Producers Association confirmed no further price increases and expects prices to gradually decrease according to market mechanisms.

The Ministry of Commerce spokesperson stated that current daily egg supply averages about 43 million eggs, down from approximately 45 million the previous year, due to erratic weather reducing hen productivity and the scheduled culling of hens aged 78–80 weeks, temporarily lowering production. Egg exports remain normal and have not impacted domestic supply.

Additionally, egg producers continue to face high production costs including feed, energy, and farm management expenses, causing farm gate prices to adjust with cost structures. Concurrently, egg consumption has risen during the school term and spending promotion activities under the “Thai Help Thai Plus” program, increasing demand for eggs and egg-based products and influencing recent price movements.

Egg Producers Association confirms no further price hikes; expects prices to decline in August.

Mr. Karnit said that Mr. Manoch Chutapthim, President of the Egg Producers Association, and Mrs. Payao Arikul, President of the Central Region Small Egg Producers Trade Association, jointly assessed the situation with the Department of Internal Trade. They agreed that egg prices will not rise further and should begin to decline in August due to improved weather enhancing hen productivity, new hens entering production, feed costs likely falling as more corn feed enters the market, and the school holiday reducing demand seasonally, leading to lower prices by market forces.

Measures to support the public and prevent price exploitation.

The Ministry of Commerce, through the Department of Internal Trade, has coordinated with wholesale and retail operators to maintain stable prices and reduce the impact on living costs. Eggs will also be sold at affordable prices under the Thai Help Thai Plus (Blue Flag) program to provide options for consumers.

On 7 July 2026, the Department of Internal Trade will convene stakeholders, major operators, and wholesale and retail chains to discuss additional measures to assist the public.

The Ministry of Commerce spokesperson said the ministry will closely monitor egg prices and assess the situation with producers, traders, fresh markets, and retail chains continuously to ensure prices reflect true costs fairly for all parties. Consumers can report sellers charging excessively high egg prices via the Department of Internal Trade hotline at 1569. Violators face penalties under Section 29 of the Price of Goods and Services Act B.E. 2542 (1999), including up to 7 years imprisonment, fines up to 140,000 baht, or both.
