Department of Internal Trade Monitors Egg Prices, Discusses Promotions with Producers and Retailers to Ease Cost of Living

The Department of Internal Trade held discussions with producers and wholesale and retail traders to monitor the egg situation, emphasizing sufficient production and expecting stable prices, while operators are cooperating on promotions to ease living costs.

Mr. Witthayakorn Maneenet, Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, revealed after the meeting on 7 July 2026 to monitor egg prices with major producers including Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF), Betagro Public Company Limited, and Akara Group, as well as wholesale and retail operators such as CP Extra, Big C Supercenter, and Go Wholesale, that the Department has closely monitored egg prices since April 2026. Producers were affected by increased production costs averaging 0.15 baht per egg due to feed, energy costs, international conflicts, and unstable weather. Initially, the Department repeatedly discussed with producers, requesting they limit cost pass-through to consumers to no more than 0.10 baht per egg to mitigate impact on living costs, while producers absorbed part of the cost themselves.

However, production costs continued to rise, and during May to June, extreme and erratic heat reduced hen productivity, leading to lower market supply and higher production costs from various factors. This resulted in the recommended farm-gate price for mixed eggs increasing from 3.60 baht to 3.80 baht per egg, a 0.20 baht rise, effective from 6 July 2026.

Mr. Witthayakorn stated that currently, the egg supply remains sufficient for domestic consumption, with no shortage issues detected. Producers estimate that the price situation going forward willtend to stabilize. There are no factors necessitating further price increases, as weather is returning to normal, and feed corn production is entering the market, which is expected to lower feed costs. This will help production and egg prices gradually return to normal.

The meeting concluded that after adjusting the recommended farm-gate egg price, operators will cooperate with the Department of Internal Trade to manage consumer impact by aligning retail prices with costs and continuously organizing sales promotions and egg discounts across channels, enabling consumers to purchase eggs at reasonable prices and easing living cost burdens during this period of high production costs.

Mr. Witthayakorn added that the Department of Internal Trade will closely monitor egg supply and prices at farm, wholesale, and retail levels, coordinating continuously with producers and operators to ensure adequate supply, fair and reasonable prices for all parties, and full support for the public's cost of living.
