On 7 July 2026, Mr. Chaiyachonok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society (DES), representing Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, delivered a statement highlighting Thailand's success in applying artificial intelligence (AI) technologies across various sectors. This was during the High-level Governmental Plenary Segment: Harnessing the Benefits of AI for All through Inclusive and Interoperable Approaches, held under the Global Dialogue on AI Governance meeting in Geneva, Switzerland.
Mr. Chaiyachonok stated that Thailand's achievements in applying AI span disaster response, online threat prevention and suppression, and enhancing public service delivery alongside AI governance. Examples include establishing the AI Governance Practice Center (AIGPC), hosting the UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of AI 2025, and chairing ASEAN meetings promoting the Expanded ASEAN Guide on AI Governance and Ethics - Generative AI.
Thailand invites the United Nations (UN) and its member states to consider the country as a real-world sandbox for AI governance. This initiative aims to provide opportunities for government, private sector, academia, and civil society to collaboratively test, exchange knowledge, and develop practical governance models suited for real-world application.
At the same time, Thailand remains open to cooperation and responsible AI use, ready to serve as a central coordinator to enable developing countries to jointly shape the future of AI governance.
"The success of AI is not measured solely by the intelligence of the technology but by the benefits it brings to the people, society, and the nation, along with the confidence and trust in ethically applying AI technology."Mr. Chaiyachonok concluded.
