The Department of Internal Trade raises the standards for fuel dispensers by awarding a “Gold” label to build consumer confidence and expands standardized service stations nationwide.
The Department of Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce, is continuously advancing the standards for overseeing fuel volume measurement devices. It awards the “Fuel Dispenser Verified” gold-level label to gas stations that meet the department’s standards to assure consumers they receive the full amount of fuel paid for, accurately and fairly. The department is also accelerating efforts to increase the number of gas stations nationwide that earn the gold label.
Mr. Wityakorn Maneenet, Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, said after inspecting fuel volume meters and awarding the “Fuel Dispenser Verified” gold label to Bangchak gas stations on Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road and PTT stations on Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road that the department prioritizes consumer rights protection and raising service standards at gas stations nationwide, ensuring customers get the full volume of fuel for their payment and fair treatment every time they refuel.
The “Gold” label is the highest level in the project, awarded to gas stations that consistently meet all criteria correctly over two years. Stations receiving this label must regularly test their fuel dispensers, use 5-liter calibrated measuring containers tested on schedule, and have staff trained in fuel testing by the Department of Internal Trade. This reflects the station’s readiness to maintain dispenser standards independently alongside official inspections.
Mr. Wityakorn said the “Fuel Dispenser Verified” project integrates cooperation between the government and fuel retailers to raise standards in managing fuel dispensers. It encourages stations to self-monitor quality alongside official inspections, enhancing oversight efficiency and continuously building consumer trust. Currently, 12 fuel companies participate, including PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited, Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited, PTG Energy Public Company Limited, Shell Thailand Limited, SUSCO Public Company Limited, Sinopec SUSCO Limited, Star Fuels Marketing Limited, Pure Energy Thailand Limited, P O Oil Limited, and TPI Polene Power Public Company Limited.
At present, 7,068 stations nationwide from major brands have joined the project, out of 8,234 total major brand stations, representing 85.84%, and 91.72% of the 2026 target. Among these, 2,091 stations have the blue label, 4,551 silver, and 426 gold. This shows strong cooperation from operators in raising service standards concretely.
Receiving each label level requires more than just registration. Stations must meet criteria set by the Department of Internal Trade, such as regularly reporting dispenser test results, having calibrated standard measuring containers, employing trained staff, and not violating measurement laws. Failure to comply results in immediate disqualification from the project.
"The Department of Internal Trade aims to have about 700 stations with the gold label by 2026 and to continue increasing the number in 2027 to raise nationwide gas station standards, build consumer confidence, and enhance consumer protection across all areas. The department will continue monitoring, inspecting, and promoting sustained standards at gas stations throughout the country," Mr. Wityakorn said.
