On 14 July 2026, Ms. Nan Boonthida Somchai, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE), revealed that Minister Chaiyanon Chidchop has mandated policies to prevent and resolve security and social threats. This includes escalating prevention and suppression of online crime by blocking illegal social media, pages, and website URLs, especially targeting online gambling sites and related URLs. This aligns with directives from Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who instructed the DE Ministry to collaborate with relevant agencies to prevent and combat online gambling during the World Cup.
Recently, the DE Ministry has blocked social media, pages, and URLs linked to illegal gambling according to court orders, coordinating with platforms during the 2026 World Cup from 1 June to 12 July 2026. A total of 55,377 items were blocked—29,402 in June and 25,975 from 1–12 July 2026.
“The DE Ministry has integrated efforts with relevant agencies and coordinated with platforms to enhance blocking of online gambling URLs as directed by Minister Chaiyanon. Since early June 2026, during the World Cup period, over 55,000 URLs have been blocked using AI technology to detect and analyze gambling URLs. The public is encouraged to report any gambling-related activities via the GCC hotline at 1111 extension 87 or email csoc@mdes.go.th to the Ministry’s Illegal Website Monitoring Center. At the same time, we emphasize that distributing content related to illegal gambling on online media and social platforms, as well as online scams—even if unknowingly—may constitute a violation under Section 14 of the Computer Crime Act,” the DE Deputy Minister said.
