Prime Minister Anutin led the economic team to a successful visit to China. The BOI revealed results from negotiations with four major tech giants—Xiaomi, ChangAn, InnoLight, and Eoptolink—who plan to invest in Thailand, aiming to develop the country into a regional hub for electric vehicles and AI, thereby boosting the economy.
Mr. Narut Therdsteerasak, Secretary-General of the Board of Investment (BOI). He detailed the success of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s visit to the People’s Republic of China, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith and Industry Minister Worawut Silpa-archa. Discussions with top executives of four leading Chinese companies were cordial, with clear plans to expand investments in Thailand.
The BOI Secretary-General stated that for Xiaomi, the world's third-largest smartphone and technology brand, the Prime Minister invited them to consider Thailand as a base for electric vehicle production and a regional R&D center. The government is ready to support through the Thailand FastPass scheme, EV incentives, and aims to conclude the Thailand-EU FTA negotiations by the end of this year to support export market expansion.
Regarding ChangAn Automobile, China’s fourth-largest car manufacturer, which has already invested 10 billion baht to establish a full-scale right-hand drive vehicle production line—the first outside China—in Thailand, there is a clear plan to increase annual production capacity from 100,000 to 200,000 vehicles by 2030. They also plan to establish an R&D center and regional office to manage over 40 group companies worldwide. The Prime Minister assured support and invited the company to consider listing on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) for mutual growth.
Mr. Narut added that in the advanced technology sector, the government held talks with InnoLight Technology, the world’s leading Optical Transceiver company, which has already invested over 35.8 billion baht in Thailand with production bases in Saraburi and Ayutthaya provinces, employing more than 12,000 Thai workers. This year, employment is expected to increase to 20,000 as they prepare to open a third factory in Saraburi. The government also invited InnoLight to list on the Thai stock market and is facilitating a fast-track process.
At the same time, discussions were held with Eoptolink Technology, the world’s second-largest Optical Transceiver manufacturer, which has invested over 10 billion baht in Chonburi and Rayong provinces, employing more than 9,000 Thai workers. The company plans major ongoing production expansions to meet global demand from AI and cloud data centers.
“The key objective of attracting these world-class companies, partners with Google, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Amazon, is not only to establish production bases but also to bring in high-value activities such as research and development (R&D) and Thai workforce development.”
Mr. Narut emphasized that the Prime Minister’s direct involvement in negotiations has boosted confidence, encouraging companies to bring more technology and R&D activities to Thailand. This will enhance Thailand’s competitiveness and create sustainable, high-quality jobs for Thai people.
