Airport Rail Link Disruption Reduces Service to One Train Urgent Coordination for Additional Buses to Suvarnabhumi

The Airport Rail Link malfunctioned, unable to dispatch trains from the maintenance center, running temporarily with just one train at a frequency of one hour per trip. The Department of Rail Transport is urgently coordinating with BMTA and SRT to provide additional vehicles, while Suvarnabhumi Airport advises passengers to allow extra travel time.

The Airport Rail Link is currently operating with only one train.

On 22 July 2026, Mr. Pichet Kunathumrak, Director-General of the Department of Rail Transport (DRT), revealed that a technical failure occurred at the turnaround point within the Airport Rail Link maintenance center at Khlong Tan around 02:30. An on-site inspection found that a train was blocking the track between the service line and the maintenance center.

This incident prevented trains from leaving the maintenance center to provide full service. Currently, only one train is running temporarily, with a frequency of about one hour per station. Authorities are urgently working to move the blocked train and fix the problem. The company clarified that this issue does not compromise passenger safety.

Additional Services Arranged by BMTA and SRT to Mitigate Impact

To ease inconvenience, the Department of Rail Transport has coordinated with relevant agencies to arrange alternative mass transit services as follows:

• The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) is providing additional bus services for passengers on the direct route between Suvarnabhumi Airport and CAT Makkasan Station.
• The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is running extra train services on the Lat Krabang to Makkasan route to accommodate more travelers.

Passengers can use these additional services at Makkasan Station (pickup/drop-off on the ground floor beneath the station) and Suvarnabhumi Station (pickup/drop-off on the 2nd floor, Gate 9). Additionally, diesel suburban trains operated by SRT nearby are available as an alternative option.

Suvarnabhumi Airport Advises Allowing Extra Time and Using Alternatives

Suvarnabhumi Airport (Suvarnabhumi) has warned passengers planning to travel to or from the airport during this period to temporarily avoid using the Airport Rail Link and consider alternative public transport options such as public taxis, licensed ride-hailing services (Grab and authorized providers), public buses, or airport limousine services.

Passengers with scheduled flights are advised to plan their travel and allow extra time to reach the airport to avoid missing flights. Suvarnabhumi has deployed staff to assist and provide information to passengers to help minimize the disruption until the situation returns to normal.
