The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) launched a special steam locomotive tour on the Bangkok–Ayutthaya route on 28 July 2026 to honor His Majesty the King’s birthday. The event invites travelers to experience the charm of the World Heritage city and boost tourism, with bookings opening soon for the Mother’s Day trip on 12 August.
Mr. Anan Phoonnimdaeng, Governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT). He presided over the ceremony releasing the special steam locomotive tour train on the “Bangkok – Ayutthaya – Bangkok” route in celebration of His Majesty the King’s birthday at Bangkok Station (Hua Lamphong), joined by Mr. Prasit Thaworn, Director of Passenger Services, Mr. Arnon Wongwijarn, Chief Mechanical Engineer, executives, staff, the public, and tourists who gathered to show their loyalty.
This steam locomotive tour was organized to give the public a chance to celebrate a significant national occasion while experiencing nostalgic travel aboard a historic steam locomotive to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, a World Heritage city rich in historical, cultural, and local identity. The event promotes rail tourism alongside historic heritage conservation and sustainably boosts the tourism economy in the area.
Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province is a popular destination for both Thai and international tourists, known for its valuable ancient ruins and temples, riverside lifestyle along the Chao Phraya River, traditional markets, and unique local cuisine. Traveling by steam train enriches visitors’ experiences by allowing them to relive history, enjoy the historic atmosphere, and admire the beauty of this World Heritage city.
Look forward to the next trip on National Mother’s Day, 12 August. SRT holds seven steam locomotive tours annually on significant occasions. The upcoming route, “Bangkok – Chachoengsao Junction – Bangkok,” will run on 12 August 2026 to give the public and tourists the opportunity to enjoy this valuable travel experience.
