The Ministry of Transport visits Sisaket to monitor transport system development.

2 Aug 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Siripong Angkasunkitti, Deputy Minister of Transport, conducted an inspection to monitor improvements in the capacity of rail and road transport systems in Ubon Ratchathani and Sisaket provinces. He visited Sisaket Railway Station along with Mr. Pichet Kunathamrak, Director-General of the Department of Rail Transport (DRT), and DRT officials to review train services, passenger and freight transport management, and to hear plans for station area development around the fountain roundabout in front of Sisaket Railway Station. The improvements include upgrading the road-level fountain area, lighting, and surrounding landscape to enhance public travel and support regional economic development.

Sisaket Railway Station is a key station on the Northeastern railway line connecting Bangkok with the Lower Northeastern region. Currently, 20 trains operate daily, including special express, express, rapid, and local trains, serving about 1,900 passengers per day on average. The station also offers feeder transport options such as songthaews (shared pickup trucks), taxis, vans, and motorcycle taxis to facilitate local travel.

Promotion of the "Chira–Ubon Ratchathani" double-track railway to upgrade Southern Isan travel

In the future, Sisaket Railway Station will connect with the double-track railway project between Chira Junction and Ubon Ratchathani, which is currently being prepared for Cabinet approval to enhance service quality, improve travel connectivity, and support economic growth in the area.

Additionally, the Deputy Minister of Transport held discussions with related agencies and the Sisaket Chamber of Commerce to gather suggestions on improving the province's transport system, exchanging views on developing transport infrastructure to sustainably support economic expansion, trade, investment, and tourism in the region.

. Mr. Pichet Kunathamrak, Director-General of the Department of Rail Transport, said the DRT prioritizes developing the rail system alongside all aspects of transport infrastructure to achieve seamless travel and freight transport connectivity, especially between rail, public transport, and road networks. This approach facilitates public travel, boosts logistics efficiency, reduces transport costs, and supports long-term economic development of local and regional areas.

The Director-General of the Department of Rail Transport added that Ubon Ratchathani and Sisaket provinces are strategic areas with high potential in economy, trade, investment, and transport connectivity with neighboring regions and countries. Developing the rail system in line with national transport infrastructure plans will expand travel options, enhance freight transport efficiency within and between provinces, and strengthen the transport network, forming a vital foundation to drive the Lower Northeastern economy sustainably in the long term.

The DRT is ready to coordinate with all relevant agencies to push forward transport infrastructure development in line with government and Ministry of Transport policies, aiming to elevate the rail system as the country's main transport mode, improve logistics efficiency, enhance public quality of life, and strengthen the nation's competitiveness sustainably.
