Siripong discussed with Tesla (Thailand) moving forward with cooperation in electric vehicle technology to promote clean energy public transportation and prepare Department of Land Transport engineers for the EV trend in the country.
Mr. Siripong Angkasagulkiat, Deputy Minister of Transport, revealed after discussions with Tesla (Thailand) Co., Ltd. to exchange information and cooperation approaches on electric vehicle technology in Thailand that the government, through the Ministry of Transport, supports the public's transition to electric vehicles (EVs) as they help reduce travel costs and are environmentally friendly. The ministry is also pushing public transport systems—such as minibuses, taxis, trucks, and rail systems—to shift to electric vehicles by updating regulations, developing related standards, and implementing the second phase of EV support measures (EV 3.5, 2024–2027) to promote EV use and build confidence for the growth of Thailand's electric vehicle industry in a concrete way.
Additionally, the Ministry of Transport discussed cooperation with Tesla’s expert engineers to exchange knowledge on electric vehicle inspections and related tools. This will be a key guideline for developing the Department of Land Transport’s personnel to have the skills and expertise to inspect electric vehicles according to safety standards. The ministry is also ready to coordinate with other companies to strengthen capabilities and raise inspection standards to be more comprehensive and effective.
Tesla also presented a comprehensive range of products and technologies, including electric vehicles (Model 3, Model Y, Cybertruck, Semi, Robotaxi, Optimus), advanced driver assistance systems using an end-to-end driving concept, full self-driving (FSD) technology, high-speed Supercharger stations, and the "Tesla Ecosystem" concept that links electric vehicle technology, clean energy, and artificial intelligence (AI) technology together to support carbon emission reduction, enhance travel safety, and support the future development of Thailand’s electric vehicle industry.
“This discussion marks an important step in cooperation between the government and private sector to promote the use of electric vehicles, clean energy, and enhance personnel capacity. This will help upgrade Thailand’s transportation system to be safer, more efficient, environmentally friendly, and advance a concrete transition to clean energy transportation,” said Siripong.
