The Department of Internal Trade is addressing rising egg prices by launching the “Thai Eggs Helping Thailand” campaign, distributing 3.42 million eggs nationwide at prices 10% lower than the market from 13-31 August 2026. It confirms no shortage of eggs and warns that excessive profiteering may lead to severe penalties including up to 7 years in prison.
The Department of Internal Trade will open sales points for Thai Eggs Helping Thailand across the country from 13 to 31 August 2026, aiming to distribute 3.42 million eggs at prices about 10% below market levels. This is to provide more options and alleviate the public’s cost of living, while assuring that egg supplies remain sufficient despite a drop in production during this period.
Mr. Witthayakorn Maneenet, Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, revealed that following the announcement by the egg farmers’ cooperative network to raise the farm gate price of mixed eggs from 3.80 baht to 4.00 baht per egg, effective from 7 August 2026, the Department of Internal Trade has prepared measures to provide consumers with alternatives to buy Thai Eggs Helping Thailand. This involves coordinating with provincial commerce offices nationwide to set up sales points for the campaign from 13 to 31 August 2026.
In the provinces, commerce offices will distribute Thai Eggs Helping Thailand through sales points covering all 76 provinces. In Bangkok, eggs will be sold via the Blue Flag community campaign at prices about 10% lower than market rates. The goal is to distribute 3.42 million eggs nationwide to reduce expenses and expand purchasing options for the public. Besides eggs, Blue Flag sales points also offer essential consumer goods such as rice, cooking oil, and other items at affordable prices.
Mr. Witthayakorn stated that the current egg situation shows a decline in production volume from normal levels but does not represent a market shortage. August 2026 data shows approximately 53.85 million caged laying hens, expected to produce about 43.35 million eggs daily, a roughly 3% decrease from standard levels, resulting in reduced egg supply and impacting current prices.
“Currently, there are enough eggs for consumption, though production volume is down from normal. The Department has increased sales channels for Thai Eggs Helping Thailand to assist the public during this price increase, alongside closely monitoring supply and prices at all trade levels,” said Mr. Witthayakorn.
The Department of Internal Trade has coordinated with the Department of Livestock Development to discuss ways to increase egg supply in the system and continuously monitor production and sales to ensure adequate supply and price consistency with costs and market conditions. Additionally, if any trader is found selling at excessively high prices, complaints can be made to the Department’s hotline at 1569. Violators face penalties under Section 29 of the Price of Goods and Services Act B.E. 2542 (1999), including fines up to 140,000 baht, imprisonment up to 7 years, or both.
