The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, together with the Ministry of Defense, has launched the "Tech Forces Program" to upskill digital and cyber capabilities for 25,000 conscripts and volunteer soldiers, starting September 2026, aiming to support career advancement after military service.
Mr. Chaichanok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society (DES). He spoke after a joint meeting with Air Chief Marshal Suchart Theparak, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defense. Regarding the implementation of the “Tech Forces Program” to promote and develop digital skills for soldiers and volunteer troops. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society is responsible for supporting curriculum development to enhance technology learning for military personnel and volunteers. A working group will be established to study details and expedite the project’s completion by September 2026.
Mr. Chaichanok stated, “This skill development aims to equip selected personnel with additional technological competencies across multiple dimensions for career use, including duties performed while serving in various military departments aligned with the training received. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society will select appropriate courses from agencies such as Depa and ETDA. Upon completion, trainees can apply their knowledge to assist their units and pursue desired careers after discharge.”
Another aspect of upgrading digital skills for soldiers and volunteers is to strengthen personnel in defending against cyber threats and enhancing digital immunity. This collaborative effort between the two ministries ensures that military personnel and volunteers develop resilience against digital threats.
“Having served as a soldier myself, I understand conscript life and want selected personnel to gain additional technology skills relevant today. This will not only aid their work in units matching their expertise but also allow them to use these skills professionally after discharge. Both ministries will form a joint working group to develop curricula tailored to the needs of soldiers and volunteers,” the DES minister said.
Meanwhile, Air Chief Marshal Suchart Theparak, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, said the volunteer soldier program will begin in September 2026, opening 25,000 positions with a 4-year contract. Training includes 6 weeks of basic military training and 4 weeks of Tech Forces Program courses, after which personnel will be assigned to suitable units.
