The Department of Internal Trade visited Korat to dispel rumors of an egg shortage, confirming sufficient supply and launching the 'Thai Eggs Help Thai' project offering a 10% price reduction from 13 to 31 August 2026.
Mr. Wityakorn Maneenet, Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, revealed the domestic egg situation, stating that the Department of Internal Trade is aware of the current decline in egg production. Therefore, it is coordinating with related agencies to manage supply, prices, and distribution to ensure enough eggs for the public and to help ease the cost of living.
On price management, the Department of Internal Trade has instructed provincial commerce offices nationwide to procure and sell eggs at special prices to the public under the project. “Thai Eggs Help Thai” eggs are sold at approximately 10% below market price from 13 to 31 August 2026, aiming to reduce living expenses and increase accessibility to reasonably priced eggs. If any area faces shortages or problems, the public is encouraged to contact their local commerce office for assistance and additional egg supplies.
Additionally, the Department of Internal Trade has coordinated with wholesale and retail chains to offer promotional prices on eggs, providing consumers with more affordable options. It is also helping to distribute eggs widely. The department will closely monitor prices and sales to ensure fair distribution aligned with market conditions.
For areas facing specific impacts, the Department of Internal Trade is managing the situation locally. In Nakhon Ratchasima province, the provincial commerce office was ordered to verify complaints, coordinate with local traders, and procure additional eggs from other production sources to increase supply and alleviate residents' difficulties. Investigation found that rumors of egg exports causing shortages are unfounded and unconfirmed. Traders continue to sell eggs daily and can order directly from farms; supply remains sufficient.
, Mr. Somchuan Rattanmangkhalanon, Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development, said the department is prioritizing managing egg production volume to meet domestic demand by extending the cage period for laying hens to maintain and increase egg output. This measure aims to relieve current production tightness. The department will closely monitor production, consumption needs, and distribution to balance supply among farmers, businesses, and consumers.
The Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade added that the department will closely track egg supply, prices, and distribution, coordinating continuously with related agencies and the private sector to ensure sufficient eggs and prevent price gouging or consumer exploitation.
