"Phattharaphong" met with Grab to facilitate passengers, travelers, and tourists in traveling conveniently and safely from regional airports across Thailand, ensuring service providers can be verified from the start of the journey.
Mr. Phattharaphong Phattharaprasit, Deputy Minister of Transport. He revealed after talks with representatives of GrabTaxi (Thailand) Co., Ltd. to explore cooperation between Grab and the Department of Airports (DOA) to elevate airport transportation services that the Ministry of Transport prioritizes developing an integrated transport system, especially for travel from airports to various areas. This aims to make it easier for passengers and tourists to depart from airports. The discussion with Grab focused on exchanging ideas to develop service models that meet user needs and to promote the integration of public transport systems with modern app-based travel services efficiently.
The Department of Airports has designated areas for public vehicles to pick up and drop off passengers at 21 commercial airports nationwide (out of 28 total), including buses, taxis, songthaews (shared pickup trucks), and other services appropriate to each airport. Additionally, the DOA has been tasked to consider cooperation with Grab to facilitate travel connections between airports and local destinations, prioritizing passenger convenience and safety.
This cooperation must be carried out within the framework of relevant laws, regulations, and criteria carefully, to concretely develop service models at DOA airports. The pilot will begin at three airports: Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, and Ubon Ratchathani. Furthermore, all types of transport service providers are required to register and strictly comply with Department of Land Transport regulations before operating vehicles within airport grounds.
