The Ministry of Commerce is rapidly mobilizing consumer goods to assist flood victims in Nan, partnering with the private sector to urgently send supplies to ease the public's distress.
Mr. Witthayakorn Maneenet, Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, said heavy rains in northern Thailand have caused flash floods and mudslides affecting many areas, particularly Nan province, where Pua district has been hit hard. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Supachai Sutthammanoon has ordered the Ministry of Commerce and the Department of Internal Trade to quickly prepare essential consumer goods to provide timely assistance to the affected population.
Mr. Witthayakorn added that the department is coordinating with producers, businesses, and the private sector to secure support for necessary items such as food, drinking water, and basic supplies to collect and deliver to the affected areas as soon as possible. They are also working with relevant agencies to manage and distribute these goods comprehensively to those in need.
Additionally, the department is closely collaborating with provincial commerce offices in the north to monitor supply conditions and continuously survey the needs of residents in each area. They are linking producers and businesses to expedite sending essential goods upon request, ensuring aid matches local needs and reaches the affected people quickly and thoroughly.
Producers or businesses interested in donating supplies, consumer goods, and necessities can coordinate with the Department of Internal Trade’s Price and Quantity Control Division at 02-507-5689 to help extend assistance to communities impacted by the disaster.
“The Department of Internal Trade sends its support and best wishes to all flood-affected residents. We hope everyone stays safe and overcomes this disaster swiftly. The Ministry of Commerce and the Department of Internal Trade will do their utmost to provide aid and care to the people,” Mr. Witthayakorn said.
