According to a report from the Department of Highways, following flooding in Nan and adjacent provinces, the department has deployed personnel, machinery, and equipment continuously since 19 August 2026 to assist the public by reopening affected routes, clearing landslides, and restoring damaged spots to enable safe travel as soon as possible.
Data from the Department of Highways as of 20 August 2026 at 12:00 PM indicates that highway networks in four provinces have been affected by flooding at 16 locations. Eight locations remain passable, while eight are still closed, detailed as follows.
The Department of Highways is coordinating with local agencies and nearby provinces, including Nan Highway Districts 1 and 2, Phayao Highway District, Lampang Road Construction Center, and Bridge Construction and Rehabilitation Center 1, to expedite repairs, especially at points severely impacting public travel.
At two sites with severe damage where bridge structures have collapsed, the Department of Highways has deployed Bailey bridge sets (temporary steel bridges) in Pua District, Nan Province, specifically:
Highway 1256 (km 5+975), Ban Mon Bridge, Pua District. The central span of the bridge is missing approximately 10 meters. Installation began on the afternoon of 20 August, with traffic expected to reopen on 21 August 2026.
Highway 1371 (km 3+700), Huai Tat Bridge, Pua District. The bridge deck is missing two spans, and one pier has subsided. A 30-meter Bailey bridge installation is planned for the morning of 21 August, aiming to reopen traffic on 22 August 2026.
Additionally, repairs are underway on bridge abutments and road surfaces at several sites, including Ban Fai Bridge in Pua District on Highway 1371 and Sop Bua Bridge in Tha Wang Pha District on Highway 1170, with reopening expected by the evening of 20 August 2026.
On Highway 1256 from km 1+500 to km 2+100 near Ban Kaem, Voranakhon Subdistrict, Pua District, officials are working urgently to restore the route for reopening. At km 8+000 near Huai Yen Curve, which has suffered severe damage and is inaccessible by vehicle, authorities are assessing the situation and will proceed with repairs once conditions are safe.
The Department of Highways has also deployed staff and machinery to clear landslides and open temporary routes on Highways 1371, 1071, and 1256 continuously around the clock to facilitate travel and reduce public disruption.
The Department of Highways advises the public to plan travel carefully, avoid flood-affected routes, and strictly follow warning signs and official instructions for safety.
