Nikhom Somklang, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, visited Thung Song Hong Community Housing and instructed the National Housing Authority to urgently study revitalizing the deteriorated area into condominiums adjacent to the Red Line Skytrain to increase housing opportunities for low-income people.
On 17 September 2026, Nikhom Somklang, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, visited the Thung Song Hong Community Housing project on Kamphaeng Phet 6 Road, Don Mueang Subdistrict, Don Mueang District, Bangkok, to monitor living conditions and encourage elderly and vulnerable groups. The visit was welcomed by Taweepong Wichaidit, Governor of the National Housing Authority (NHA), along with executives and local residents.
Nikhom stated that a key mission of the National Housing Authority is to promote access to homeownership for low-income people. However, many projects have aged and deteriorated over time, so it is time to renovate for safety and security while reconsidering land use to maximize value.
The Minister explained that the Thung Song Hong Community Housing project was once a suburban area but is now located next to the Red Line Skytrain station, offering great travel convenience. It is suitable for young people or those starting their lives. Thus, the idea is to redevelop the area by building high-rise buildings to accommodate existing residents and develop remaining land into condominiums for new residents, along with commercial buildings, shops, parks, and exercise areas.
He assigned the National Housing Authority to adapt the long-term lease concept from the past “Housing for Thai People” model into “Housing for Thai People” to provide opportunities for those seeking quality homes at affordable prices, offering more options for financial stability.
Taweepong Wichaidit, Governor of the National Housing Authority, revealed details that the Thung Song Hong Community Housing was established between 1979–1982 on more than 29 rai of land. Now over 47 years old, it originally consisted of nine 5-story flat buildings totaling 1,369 units, which are severely deteriorated. The NHA collaborated with Silpakorn University to complete a master plan for revitalizing the Thung Song Hong community.

The NHA Governor added that following this approach, the Thung Song Hong community revitalization project will be able to build nine residential buildings with about 3,800 units—1,327 units for current residents and approximately 2,400 units for new residents—plus one commercial and office building and parking for about 1,900 vehicles. The focus will be on simultaneous development of "people, community, and city" to minimize impact on existing residents and the elderly during relocation.
