The Department of Livestock promotes certification standards by launching the Suphanhong label, targeting the premium market to raise the safety of Thai eggs, allowing consumers to eat them raw with confidence.
Dr. Somchuan Rattanamangkalanon, Director-General of the Department of Livestock, said the department has continuously worked to improve the standards of Thai livestock products. This time, it introduced the Suphanhong egg certification mark as a standard for egg products certified by the department.
This aims to assure consumers of food safety by strictly controlling and eliminating key pathogens such as Salmonella from the source. Eggs certified with the Suphanhong mark are high quality, fresh, clean, and meet safety standards suitable for raw or lightly cooked consumption.
Additionally, the department has applied egg shell code printing technology (Egg Labeling) to support a traceability system, ensuring comprehensive certification. This allows consumers to verify information linked back to the production source on a per-egg basis, maintaining quality control throughout the production chain.
This control extends from upstream (parent stock farms, hatcheries, and standard laying hen farms), midstream (collection and quality sorting centers under hygienic conditions), to downstream, where eggs are distributed through livestock product outlets certified by the OK Livestock standard nationwide.
At this event, besides officially launching the Suphanhong label, there were many other activities including academic seminars on egg standards, traceability, and food safety.
There was also an exhibition showcasing the egg production process—from farm management, egg shell code printing technology, traceability systems, to the certification application process—plus cooking demonstrations to share knowledge and enhance understanding of egg product standards among attendees.
The Department of Livestock aims to collaborate with farmers, entrepreneurs, and related agencies to develop livestock products that are quality-assured, standardized, and traceable. The Suphanhong egg certification is a key strategy reflecting the department's commitment to integrating digital technology to enhance traceability efficiency throughout the production chain.
This initiative not only builds consumer confidence but also adds value and strengthens the capacity of the Thai egg industry to grow sustainably in high-standard markets.
