Free MRT Rides for Foldable Bicycle and Scooter Users on 22 Sept on Four Lines: Check Conditions

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), together with BEM, EBM, and NBM, is celebrating World Car Free Day 2026 on 22 Sept 2026 by waiving MRT fares on four lines for those bringing foldable bicycles or electric scooters during the whole day service.

Reporters cite the MRTA stating it is organizing a campaign to reduce global warming on "World Car Free Day 2026." This event aims to help alleviate traffic congestion, preserve the environment, and encourage the public to use mass transit combined with eco-friendly vehicles. The four mass transit operators involved are:

• Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM), the operator of the MRT lines, the MRT Blue Line (Chalerm Ratchamongkhon Line) and the MRT Purple Line (Chalong Ratchatham Line).
• Eastern Bangkok Monorail Company Limited (EBM), the operator of the MRT Yellow Line (Pipatnakhon Line).
• Northern Bangkok Monorail Company Limited (NBM), the operator of the MRT Pink Line (Wiwatnakhon Line).

Conditions and procedures for free MRT rides on 22 Sept 2026

Passengers bringing foldable bicycles, foldable electric scooters, or electric unicycles traveling on the four MRT lines will be exempt from fares on Tuesday, 22 Sept 2026, throughout service hours. They can receive free ride coupons or tickets at ticket offices in every station on the Blue, Purple, Yellow, and Pink lines.

Safety rules and precautions while inside the MRT system

For passenger safety and accident prevention within the MRT system, MRTA requests that users strictly follow safety measures.

1. No riding or driving Riding bicycles or electric scooters is prohibited inside stations and train cars.

2. Be cautious to avoid collisions or scraping Take care not to let the vehicle contact or collide with other passengers or train cars.

3. No obstruction placement Do not place bicycles or scooters blocking walkways or entry-exit doors.

4. No disassembling or folding inside train cars Do not disassemble or fold vehicles while inside MRT train cars.
