Preparing to Launch a Global Halal Platform to Support Thai Products Seizing a $3.56 Trillion Market Opportunity

N.C.C. has partnered with Chulalongkorn University's Halal Science Center to connect the Bangkok Halal Expo 2026 and Thailand Halal Assembly 2026, combining business opportunities with science, standards, and innovation to strengthen confidence in Thai halal products and services. This collaboration aims to help entrepreneurs penetrate the global Muslim consumer market, which is expected to reach $3.56 trillion by 2029.

Dr. Pornpimon Mahahmad, Director of the Halal Science Center at Chulalongkorn University, stated that the global halal economy continues to expand. By 2029, Muslim consumer spending in six key industries—halal food, fashion, tourism, pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, cosmetics, and media and recreation—is projected to total approximately $3.56 trillion. This highlights the broad economic opportunities encompassing various goods and services where Thailand has strong potential.

Thailand's strengths cover the entire supply chain, from upstream to downstream, including agriculture, food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, health products, fashion, textiles, as well as services and tourism. Additionally, the country possesses scientific knowledge, technology, and verification systems that enhance the credibility of halal products.

The critical next step is to integrate these components into a cohesive system. Starting with science as the foundational knowledge for analysis and testing, leading to innovation for developing new raw materials, products, or processes, followed by industrial application, and ultimately connecting to markets to deliver value that meets consumer needs and competes domestically and internationally.

Dr. Pornpimon added that the 13th Thailand Halal Assembly (THA) 2026 will feature the 19th Halal Science, Industry and Business (HASIB) Conference. This important forum facilitates the exchange of knowledge on halal science, technology, innovation, and industry developments.

The event emphasizes the concept of Halal ResiliScience, combining resilience and science to strengthen and adapt the halal system. Science, technology, and innovation serve as key drivers. Thailand Halal Assembly focuses on science, research, technology, and innovation, while Bangkok Halal Expo provides a platform for entrepreneurs, products, trade, and investment.

"Bringing these two events together allows entrepreneurs to see how research or technology can be applied to their products or production processes. Simultaneously, researchers gain insight into real industry and market challenges. Furthermore, it creates opportunities for business matching, international networking, and opening new markets for Thai entrepreneurs," Dr. Pornpimon explained.

Mr. Surapol Utintu, CEO of Queen Sirikit National Convention Center and Managing Director of N.C.C. Management & Development Co., Ltd., the organizer of Bangkok Halal Expo 2026, said that Thailand already has production capacity, knowledge, science, innovation, and standards that build confidence in halal goods and services.

A key challenge is to connect these strengths with markets while ensuring Thai products and services are ready based on science and standards. This enhances competitiveness and prepares them to enter markets with varying requirements and standards in different countries.

"Bangkok Halal Expo serves as a business platform connecting entrepreneurs, products, services, and Thailand’s production capabilities with buyers, importers, distributors, retailers, investors, and business partners both domestically and internationally," he said.

For 2026, the event aims to attract over 10,000 attendees, showcase approximately 150–200 booths, and facilitate at least 1,000 business negotiations. It will connect buyers and business partners from more than 30 countries.

The focus is especially on markets within the OIC, ASEAN, BIMSTEC, and other potential markets, in collaboration with the Thai Muslim Business Trade Association (TMTA) and supported by the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP), the Institute for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ISMED), the National Food Institute (NFI), and the Thai Muslim Entrepreneurs Development Institute for Middle Eastern Markets (TME).

This collaboration with Thailand Halal Assembly integrates knowledge, science, innovation, production, and standards with markets to create market access for Thai entrepreneurs, leading to new partnerships, new markets, investments, and business pipelines that continue beyond the event. Bangkok Halal Expo 2026 is scheduled for 2–4 December 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok.
